Presidential Election 2011

I believe, that it is a matter of fact that, most pple already lost faith in giving feedback or that MIW will listen.. They even acknowledge Publicly themselves that they are \"deaf frogs\".. (Guess it was in the MSM?)
What we say on the internet does clip our govt's wings somewhat. And that is good. We should continue to give substantial feedback. All I am pointing out is that the conspiracy theories don't hold water. I don't mean to put people's backs up. I just thought that the elections are over and the time to work together has begun.
That is why, many netizens, resort to feedback at the polls for a REAL change rather than feedback thru other channels.
Another thing is, the leader don't walk the talk or led by examples. This results in little credibility in whatever they're saying and pple are not buying into it.
As specify examples, tagging their salary to national median instead of GDP, or being CBF themselves would have made a difference.. to show their commitment to citizens.. but they just wouldn't do it.
And, we expect a good Govt to show Transparency and Accountability but unfortunately, this appears to be serious lacking. Did you give feedback about this? Did they act? Case in point, TH & Mas selamat..
Many times, what pple perceive is just \"keep out of my elite uncaring face\" attitude..
Many netizens recognise the only \"feedback\" medium that will yield results is the voting slip. -

why in those days under President Ong Teng Cheong's time and during President Nathan's time, we don't have so many candidates to choose, whereas now got 4 ?
bcoz the candidates felt that the time is not \"ripe\" then?
The GE2011 might have given them a sign or confidence that they have a chance.. b4 that, is like no chance.. The presence of social media in contrast to MSM might be a factor too. -
I hope voters who make their votes invalid can be more responsible next time. Every votes is important. Donβt waste it.

after the voting over, feel sian!

One thinks that the internet gives anonymity but I know for a fact that if anyone wanted to, they CAN (and in some criminal cases) they DO track down exactly who is writing what and from where. The technology exists to do that.
This is true.
I personally knew of a case of a very clever colleague who called the internet service provider to track down somebody sending suspicious email to her. Apparently can trace the PC ID and then trace back to the subscriber. That sender got the shock of his life I am sure. -
Chenonceau:
Yup. Perhaps we should have 2 Presidents.
Another way of looking at it is that TT + TCB (both PAP men) is far more than the non-PAP faces. MIW still have some sort of mandate.raysusan:
Combined votes of TCB and TJS are more than TT's in all centers. We shot ourselves in the foot again.
One to balance-off the other!
Or even all 3 together as a Council of Presidents? -

True lah. Now the votes are split 3-ways, no use finger-pointing at each other!DesertWind:
Yup, could not help wishing TKL had pulled out and TJS did not appear! Then TCB would win.
TJS supporters may have similar wishes, if only TCB had pulled out and TT did not appear! then TJS would win. :siam:

Thanks, Chenonceau, for sharing your thoughts.concern2:
One of the major concerns of MNCs is political stability. Singapore is bent on this advantage - but at the cost of its people. The divide is caused by the people who created it in the first place, yet we continue to hub on stability. STABILITY OF WHAT? Stability of having bigger cracks to balance on lest we become the ones to fall through? I can yet find my own resolution.
So... if the MNCs pull out and jobs are lost, it will not cost people their livelihoods... their spending power... their peace of mind? So... you want the MNCs to pull out to gain a quantum leap in political change, as if that will not ALSO cost the people?
It seems to me that the pace of change is nice and brisk. A good warning has been given to the MIW. There will be greater debate in parliament... and in the next 5 years, the opposition will strengthen and will be more ready to take on governance as (and if) PAP further weakens (in its ability to stay in touch and attract men/women of calibre). That is a pretty good balance between change and status quo.
One mustn't be in such a hurry to CHANGE, CHANGE and CHANGE that we forget that the bathtub holds both the baby and the bath water... and why throw the baby out with he bath water. We may be somewhat disappointed in the results but there is always a tomorrow to hope in.
My humble 2 cents.
As for PAP scaring people to vote for them, there is really no basis. One thinks that the internet gives anonymity but I know for a fact that if anyone wanted to, they CAN (and in some criminal cases) they DO track down exactly who is writing what and from where. The technology exists to do that. We are brave and loud-mouthed and abusive because we think we can't be tracked. The truth is, no one bothers to track. This reflects the government's tolerance of dissident views and determination to allow the people's voices rise up.
I have written severe anti-govt pieces on my blog. They tracked me down. I did not go to jail. Indeed, there was an earnest desire to listen and dialogue and find solutions. Elections are over. We need to work with the government we have. We should NOT shut up and submit. We should continue to say our piece and give our feedback and help each other do better. Until the next elections, where we get to choose again.
So let's stop with these conspiracy theories... people are scared... people are afraid... people don't wanna risk... My question is, when I write a severely anti-govt piece, I stand up and show my face to the government and I present the logic of my stand. They KNOW who I am. We have conversed. Those who come here and write out conspiracies and unflattering descriptives, would you say the same things with faces unveiled?
As I mentioned, I have yet to find my own resolution..There are not many people around me who are willing to share their political views. I am often disappointed by remarks like,\"Don't need to think lah, just vote XXX!!\", end of discussion.
This is precisely why I ALWAYS come back to KSP to for a more varied opinion, and more BALANCED discussion, with like minds :hi5: :celebrate:
I ALWAYS keep in mind that I CAN BE TRACKED when I write here. It is true that there are instances of spur of the moment. These, are also personal feelings expressed publicly, and I am prepared for disapprovals (like parents always tell you cannot say xxxx, but sometimes you intentionally let it slip out, sorry ah, papa!
)
I am not so much into politics that I will put my stand on my FB or blog, cos from my last experience with GE, it affects my relationships with people I care about (so becomes TABOO).
However, talking about things that one is really concerned about gives one HOPE and makes one feel ALIVE.
Just sharing my views...
