Club Breastfeeding Mums

Now that i recall, i did this once myself too. Think was last year. I was in pain for quite a while until i cleared the plug. Looks like not all lc are gd, surprised your lc didnt spot the milk plug!
On 3 occasions I had to used the needle on myself when I get a milk plug which is like a small piece of hard milk that clogs up the opening. I use the sterile needle to nudge out the plug.... And the milk will come gushing out.
The first time I had engorgement, I went to an lc, but I did not gino it helped much, later that evening, I saw the milk plug, and once I dug it out, I basically averted having mastitis! He lc had told me to go to gp to get antibiotics and to rest.... But the culprit was the milk plug which she did not manage to get out! Since than... I always had a sterile needle at hand! But you have to be very careful where you poke, have a steady hand and most of all, see the milk blister or plug before you even attempt to poke anything!!! -
sigh… talking about milk plugs!! My right side is stuck now… and I can’t find the culprit!! Must be cos I did not drink much water today and it is so late at BB will not want to help me out cos she’ll rather sleep! hope I get it out soon, if not, how to survive the night??

Ahh finally!! I got the plug out... It is amazing how something so small, the size of the head of a needle can cause so much discomfort! Now I can finally go to sleep after expressing out the rest of the milk! -
Robiq,
Wah...good for you! I'm still not over mine...

Hope your BBs suck really hard!! By the way, when I start getting engorged, I take Lecithin, it helps; makes the milk more watery and less chance of engorgement.Robiq,

Robiq,
Yeah, I heard about lecithin, but didn’t have a chance to buy. Maybe I should get some. I’ve been taking more EPO these two days, plus danzen, plus massage. Actually, it’s better today. Still sore, but less. Hope it’s on the mend! -
Hi MummyThreeStreams,
Can you please share how EPO can help in your situation?

I also want to know about EPO, cos I was taking it pre preggie to control mood swings...etc, but since preggie, I went off as it was bad for preggie. Would like to know how EPO affects breastfeeding too! -
Autumnbronze,
I don't know the mechanism by which EPO helps, but it's been recommended as a possible treatment for plugged ducts. See the kellymom website: http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/vitamins/lecithin.html
The reference to EPO is at the bottom of the page.
Since I have EPO at home (not very consistent I'm taking it though), I thought I should take more! -
Robiq,
EPO is generally considered safe for breast-feeding. You can read more about it at the kellymom website: http://kellymom.com/herbal/natural-treatments.html
