At what age do you let your children use toothpaste?

typically, it depends.
as soon as the kid has teeth, it is important to start cleaning it.
if you bear to part some $10+ for a small tube of toothpaste that can be swallowed, typically your kid can start brushing anytime.
if not, wait til you had trained your kid how to spit out toothpaste, cos constant ingestion of toothpaste with flouride content is http://www.fluoridealert.org/toothpaste.html

Initially, i let them use toothpaste when they knows how to spit it out.


However, i realised the toothpaste which r meant for kids r too sweet for their tooth; those that comes with flavours eg. strawberry, orange etc.

There was 1 occasion when i saw some ants lingering around d the toothpaste. Unconvinced that it was d toothpaste so i did an experiment by leaving some toothpaste around. When i came back to check, they were filled with ants! From then onwards, i stop letting them use kids’ toothpaste until they reached P1, then i start them on with adults’ toothpaste instead.

Interesting topic. We started our kids very young, soon after their teeth pops out (less than 1 yr old).


They moved on to adult tooth paste ie Colgate just before 3 yrs old

I only started on the toothpaste when they know how to spit out the water after brushing, using kids’ toothpaste.


My 7yr old just started to use adult toothpaste. I didn’t started earlier coz the mint is simply too spicy for them. I didn’t want the kids to b scared of brushing teeth.

As for the sweetness in kids’ toothpaste, I don’t really mind it. Most will get washed out after rinsing the mouth.
