Do non-GEP student has much chance with DSA

The GAT score was never revealed to candidates. The 80% mentioned in RI's website refers to GEP student's exam scores administered by MOE for all GEP students, not GAT.
Yes, agree. Wonder how Kiasuson got to know the result of his son's GAT result ?
RI website says average 80%, not 85% leh:phankao:

From what I learnt, they first look at GAT score and academic (must be at least 85% for RI) then they look at what other speciality the child has. .

By the way, what is the total GAT score upon? What is a good GAT score? -

Hi,
He is now in RI. He has offered from NJC and Dunman High. The first test he went was with HCI and he did not get any offer. He has the HCI result before he went for the test with RI. His GAT test which was taken in HCI was excellent. we have given out hopes when he received a call from RI for the Mathematic selection test. He went thru it and get the offer from RI. We are all surprise too. My son maths' result is above 95% from P4 to P6. He has an average of 85% for his P4 to P6 exams. He is not the top 10 students in his primary school.kiasuson:

Yes, I am curious to know more too. My son from mainstream had a bronze but did not get pas the first round during the DSA. He got in via his PSLE results. Overall we felt the mainstream pupils seem to be disadvantaged in the DSA exercise.
I hope this can motivate the parents to try DSA if your child is consistent with their results. Do not get worry if your kids do not have any awards. Good luck and do let me know if you need any help.
Your son must have performed very well for his Maths selection test. Which primary school was he from? Is your son in RI's Maths Club? Since he was admitted through his Maths Talent, is he required to participate in Maths Competitions? How did he perform in his S1 Maths Tests so far?
He is from a SAP non-GEP school. He is not obligated to join the Maths club. His maths in S1 was above average in the 60% percentile. Term 1 was a bit of culture shock for him. But he is getting use to life of RI. His results is improving day by day. As long as we did not get the pink slip from the school, we know he is doing alright. I have ask him a few times about whether he regretted choosing RI. His answers have been very consistence. He love the life and enjoys every moment in the school.
I think motivation is an important factor. Bring your kids to the open house and they will be motivated by the events and history of the school. -

Hi kiasuson,
On behalf of my aunt who has a mainstream son taking PSLE this year, do you know the intake of RI boys based on PSLE S1 posting? She heard from last Saturday’s RI open house that usually for Sec 1, there are 6 ‘GEP’ classes, 1 ‘Sports’ class and 8 mainstream classes every year.If half of the mainstream classes are taken by DSA, then basically 4 mainstream classes are left for PSLE S1 posting. Is this correct and how many students are there in a single mainstream class?
Thanks. -
Vanilla Cake:
I have the information from RI last year that they offered to about 250 students including 30 waiting list. From some website, I understand that there are about 152 boys from GEP that chooses to go RI. The mainstream that go thru DSA will be only left with 68 boys. The others will be from PSLE S1 posting. All classes in RI have the maximum of 30 students regardless whether you are GEP or mainstream. For the past 2 years, most of the waiting list will be able to get a place as there are always about 30 odd boys chooses other school. I hope the information helps.Hi kiasuson,

If 68 boys are from mainstream and 30 among these 68 are in Sports DSA, that means only 38 of them were admitted for Arts/Music and Academic talent? The competition seemed really stiff.

The 6 'GEP' classes have a mix of around 3 to 5 students from mainstream per class. Not sure how the school decides who from mainstream joins the 'GEP' classes. -

Thks, kiasuson. Could my aunt and I interpret the scenario as below:I have the information from RI last year that they offered to about 250 students including 30 waiting list. Total Sec 1 intake capped at maximum of 450 students.
Admission of GEPers via DSA -> 152 students.
Admission of Academic Domain/Music/Visual Arts talents via DSA -> 38 students
Admission of Sports talents via DSA -> 30 students
Places left for S1 central posting using PSLE T-score-> 230
assuming that the 30 students on waiting list from the academic domain/Music/Virtual Arts talents were eventually offered a place in RI? -

I am not so sure if they will admit 30 sports talent. Some of them came in after S1 Central postings.
