Write a \"love letter\" to the teacher in charge of student welfare. Off hand I cant recall the email of this teacher. Think last year I wrote to her regarding safety on sch buses. Within the same week, she called me back.Jennifer:

For me, my ds does come home with an extended vocab after p1… some of my frens feel that I should bring it up to the teacher etc… but I disagree. I believe that there are all sorts of behaviour everywhere they go, elite school or otherwise… Of cos we try to minimise by choosing a better environment, but this should not reduce the responsibility of parents to teach the child how to respond. We all know vulgarities, etc, but we don use them rite? there is no reason why our children can’t do the same. In fact, dh n I prefer that they know them now, so that we can still teach n guide them… when they only learn them when they r older, more rebellious or less close to us… we won’t be able to do anything about it.
FYI, there are teachers and the sch counsellor is stationed at the canteen and foyer during recess… I know bcos of my boy’s crying incident previously… I believe if the teachers hear bad language, they will try to nip it… but if it’s not within their hearing, not their fault either… they r there to assist the kids in need, or to maintain some order… alot of accidents, crying etc can happen during that half hour!! lol!! -

Janet, I believe any mother would miss her kid when he is away from home for a few days. I missed my dd too when she was away at Junior Sunday school camp when she was P1. I distracted myself by planning a surprise birthday for her, she came back seeing the decors and was touched. After that first time, subsequent camps were much easier to bear. She went for the GB 3D2N camp this June at the GB campsite. The girls did drills, and all sorts of tests. She slept almost like a pig. She mentioned a couple of girls needed to sleep together on one bed or couldn't sleep at all. No parents were allowed to visit. No snacks to be packed as well. Thus, my fussy girl had to eat whatever that was on her plate. However, I believe over time, they will get used to such camps.

So, see the P5 camp as a training for your boy (and yourself) to be resilient and toughen him up a bit for NS?
I felt the visitation for parents for the P5 camp should be taken away since they were not allowed to speak to the kids. Why do they want to torture the child and the parents in this way (I think more for the parents)? The kids will survive with their peers 同病相怜, and will help them to bond with one another and learn more about teamwork. However, if parents were allowed to visit in the past, then it would be hard to remove this privilege in future. -

Almost forget to reply you.
My DS used to learn suzuki violin. The teacher was good but only if you have lots of time in practising. She expected the kids to be able to play a piece well within 1-2 weeks (suzuki violin book 2). DS was only 4-5 yrs at that time. Too stressful for me and she actually ticked the parents off in front of the whole class if the kids can’t play well. I couldn’t afford sitting there with my son for an hr everyday as I was working back then. My poor DS had to wake up every morning at 7am to practise 10-15mins with me. Also, DS’s posture was all wrong as she didn’t focus in correcting them.
Now he is doing non-suzuki method with a pte tutor at home. Will be going for Grade 1 exam next yr. -

I visited my son at the camp site last night.
The so-called qualified instructors were chanting and singing stupid stuff the whole night :siao: and their broken English made my hair stand on ends.. BTW, the theme for the night was 'Hari Raya' :scratchhead:
Since we were invited to visit our children, I expected some contact time with them...but it was not to be :rant: we were there to sit/stand on benches to see a pathetic camp fire and transported to a scene in the Night Safari, or perhaps watching Alex the lion or Gloria the hippo doing a 'I like to move it move it', remember Madagascar ???
The organizer did not allow the children to talk to the parents. What is this ? Even prisoners are allowed to see their loved ones, right ???
Sorry for all the ranting...I'm so upset and couldn't sleep the whole night.
But Your Boy Shd be Back this morning .... HE Will Definitely Appreciate your Home Cooked Food and the Sore-ly Missed Bed and Comfort he take for granted

I'm surprised to hear that kids in uniform can enter LAN centres nowadays. I've poor opinion of them because of newspaper reports and also there was once I spotted some secret society hand signs being exchanged outside one of these places.
Not true lah.
There are players in reputable sec sch uniforms in the LAN centre at BTSC. But how good is their studies I dunno lah.
And I looked at those 2 teenaged boys, full of tattoos from neck to leg. I'm not impressed at all.Jennifer:
Sounds like someone I know. :nailbite:Recently I boarded a taxi and the taxi driver told me he has a sec 2 boy in RI. From the way the taxi driver describes his only child, can deduce that this child is a genius- able to read & write at 2 y.o, tops the class every year, PSLE score > 270.
