for Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing, i would have thought that Biology is compulsory - since students need to understand the structure of how our human anatomy system function, Physiology, Immunology, Psychiatry, etc.

Chemistry is useful in terms of Pharmaceutical drugs prescription.
however ironically, Chemistry is the subject that is compulsory for Medi, not Biology. Strange!

No, biology is not compulosory in order to enter medicine

it is not difficult to catch up with bio in year one

like in the US, medicine is a post grad course, bio and chem is studied at undergrad level

I guess many parents are worried about where their children can go if they were to take the NUSH offer.

My wife is one such person. I kept assuring her that the future is not limited to Science and Mathematics but it does not seem to sink in. Perhaps it is the school's name - got to petition for the name to be just NUS High !!

10 out of 23 applicants for Medicine is not bad. That is nearly half. I wonder how that compares to RI in terms of success rate.

HEARSAY that RI takes about 50% of medicine faculty, i.e. 50% x 260 = 130

130 out of cohort size 1200 is peanut.....but then also don't know how many applied for

but from the NUS admission stats, all entrants got perfect scores for A levels, and also hearsay RI got 1/3 or 1/4 of the cohort got perfect score in A level.....so just assume all the perfect scorers applied lah, then 130 got it....so it could be 13/40 or 13/30 .....definitely not as high% as NUSH

so if want to do medicine in NUS, must get NUSH diploma ..... in a sense of higher chance lah

but there’re also cases where candidates with perfect academic results, plus also perfect CCAs results … also got rejected. dun know what they’re looking for.

But difficult to compare RI and NUSH as we do not know the actual number of applicants. And the 23 number given by Jfalk is the number of NUSH graduates \"shortlisted\".. so the number of applicants likely to be higher.

Faculty Score - computed by the School of Medicine (Two interviews, essay, and portfolio review) constitutes another 50% of total admissions score.
So must have outstanding results, great public speaking skills, EQ+IQ, excellent CCA, good writing skills, exceptional CIP etc... Sounds familiar to DSA thread yay. :rotflmao:
