I started my dd on Busy Bee in K1 because we were trying to get her to speak more CL but she complain that she do not know the CL equilvalent to some of the EL words. It was then that I discovered that her CL vocab wasn't there to help her to speak the language.
So my answer is let them learn to appreciate the language as early as possible - as in K1/K2, essay writing usually kicks in from P1.
Agree that first of all, the foundation is a vocab of words/phrases, which is rather lacking for my DD now. So I've to play catching up now.. Btw thanks for sharing

Still have time, yours only K2. Not sure about this yr, but last year P1 SA2 CL paper 1 must write about 40 words - if I'm remember correctly.

My gal is quite ok with bian4 zi4 ce4 yan4 and tian2 xie3 han4 zi4. Other than that, her CL cloze, comprehension and re-arranging of sentence need some intensive grooming. The list of P1 CL ci2 yu3 to learn for year end test is out
I hope her CL improves...no need to be perfect but hopefully a 'B' at least. -

DS just finished reading 'Little House on the Prairie.\" It's one of those classics that I got him to read so that we'll have something in common to share - his old man also read that book when he was young mah. Come to think about it, I recall that there was a series on TV with the same title.

In those days, they call Kansas Indian country; and there were hectares of space filled with nature and nothing else. So I can imagine the vastness of it all. No, actually living in this tiny red dot, I can't really imagine.
I guess the phrase \"a stone's throw away\" is never applicable to your place hor? Does your dh have to build the house on his own from scratch like in the storybook?

So there are parents that put their kids in Busy Bee for writing and regular CL elsewhere.[/quote]Actually tat was wat I did...we were with Berries fr P1 n started BB writing class beginning P3 ...found tat berries standard not on par with sch n other center dun cater to wat I wan..only paper 2 n oral...most centers do all or only creative writing too.. So with BB's both classes, my Ds CL is hopefully well covered for..
Actually their regular CL/HCL class focus more on paper 2 n oral with a few comp once a while.. My Ds attends both their class.. Indeed u r right. This is not a place for kids poor in CL to do catch up cos stuff taught r more challenging...drickymummy:

Since ds opts to stay on with Berries, I've decided to personally coach him on Chinese creative writing. In theory, Chinese creative writing should be the same as English rite?Trapwithin:

My Chinese std is quite a joke, so it really sounds very funny - to me - that I'm even trying to 'upgrade' myself so that I can teach ds this. Hahaha.
After one term..he is v happy there..n he also compared BB's standard with Berries n find BB's more challenging n he prefers tat..
Discuss with your Ds to try out...never try never know mah.... -

Markfch, dun hav to feel paiseh, u should b proud of your boy's achievement. For my boy, I know he is academically weak, but his strength is in his love for God. To me that is more impt than studies... So far he has no issues with self esteem when he is lagging behind his classmates, so we let it be. Just try to help him be self motivated lo. I m those mommy that concentrate on character development rather than academics, because I believe that a child with right attitudes will be a blessing to others and himself. How well he does in life is not in my hands, if he has the right attitude, don have good grades also can make a living lah. but of cos istill have my ks moments lah :evil:

Esp for weekends? :? my boy is complaining that he is spending too much time studying... but he only studies for about > an hour each day, even Saturdays! no enrichment or tuition, and reads a few pages of chinese and english books. Sundays are sabbath, no studying n only bible reading and sunday school. -

Sat mornings, both have CL tuition. Son has Maths tuition after that. After lunch and some rest time (that means play), they have to take a nap. Nights, son has to finish his Math tuition hw. Younger one has to revise either Math or English. Sunday morn, son has to complete CL tuition hw before his Eng enrichment. Rest of the day, I go easy on him...but with SA2 coming, some revision is done at night.
