Then you can expect 2 options in Term 4 - either revise the whole year syllabus or else expect more challenging stuff to come.

Hi
Just wanted to share my thoughts on English Assessment books, on which are good, etc. I have bought the following titles for P1 to P6:
1. EPH Publishing - Complete Practice in Vocab, Grammar & Comprehension; Challenging 4-in-1 English; Excel in Comprehension; and English Guide (purchased today)
2. Marshall Cavendish - English Practice
3. SAP - Conquer Cloze
I prefer English Guide as it is presscriptive and encourages wider writing. It is not just a MCQ book. Vocab coverage in questions is not as high as Complete Practice.
Complete Practice is great if the content has already been covered at school; I have found certain sections difficult to teach to my DC. Same is true for Challenging 4-in1.
English Practice is simple and probably aimed at the weaker student.
Excel In Comprehension. I am disappointed in this book, too much guidance (close to half the book) and too few challenging comprehension pieces. Also, not enough inference type questions.
Conquer Cloze - great books for vocab and grammar cloze, but not comprehension cloze (like most other books). If you are a weak reader as my DS, with limited vocab, then this book is not for your DC.
In summary English Guide is a great reference book to use, and it should be complemented by Complete Practice (as it has so bioth depth and breadth of Vocab and Grammar questions).
Challenging English 4-in-1 is great for comprehension (as it has 1 or 2 inference questions per passage).
Cloze questions are best covered in Conquer Cloze and English Guide .
Synthesis and Transformation and Editing are best covered in Challenging English 4-in-1. -

I am glad to help as fellow Kiasu posters are always helpful to me.
The publisher is EPH Publishing and the web link is below. P1 to P6 books are great for both series.

Hi RGAV
I think itβs a good idea to let kids reading aloud for half an hour at least everyday. Do you think the composition samples are good choice for them to read aloud? Or do you have any other recommendation? Thanks a lot!
