Review of Secondary/IP Schools
-
I would think that most students in the IP programme should be able to do well in the A level. The problem may be that IP programme emphasised more on independent work and some students may become lax. In the end, it is still the same, they have to take ‘A’ level exams and to do well, it is still the same, keep drilling on the 10 years series problems. It is simply very hard for me to imagine many students who get more than 250 aggregate in PSLE can’t cope with ‘A’ level 10 years series problems.

Have any parents thought of this question ? What happen if the kids are not scoring good \"A\" level results to get into local Uni or to get into the course they want. What other options are there for these IP students ? :?
Just to add on some points to this. In the UK, there are some schools where the students just go accelerated to the GCSE A levels equivalent and often these students are already identified as good enough so they will usually not screw up their A levels.
However, there will be some who just happen to slack off because they do not really find any goal to work towards so they do not score well for the As.
In such schools, you tend to end up with 2 extreme classes of students. -
Where to get past 10 year series of A level Question papers?TIA

Hi daisyt,
Thanks for sharing with us your daughter's experience. It's much appreciated. Is your daughter in RGS?
Yah, appreciated your insightful post. ACSI offers IB, is that different from IP? -

sji has a low cut off point, for your information, at 241 last year.
I already said in my first post that I dont want to mention the school where my son is currently at.san76:
HI,
Why nobody mention Catholic High?
Also, as you guys pointed out the other great things of other schools, what do you guys think of josephians? how is SJI a good school? and don't you think that their campus is too small? please, I really need help deciding, I a confident my son can get a high PSLE score, so I'm inclined to either SJI or RI -

And in fact, we don't speak chinese among our peers at all. We aren't reserved or anything as well, we're full of programmes ready to fly you off to other countries.mathsparks:
it's more a stereotype than truth regarding hci boys speaking chinese. When i was at the open house, so many of the boys were speaking english.
I agree. The Chinese speaking ones were in the bygone years...The new generation are speaking a lot more in English. -
NUS High or SJI or RI?
My boy was given a confirmed offer to NUS High for Sec 1 2014. But we are undecided. He is naturally strong in Maths and Science, but does not enjoy them more than he enjoys other Humanities subjects like History and Economics. Could we hear the experiences of parents whose children are in a similar situation? Did you eventually choose NUS High or some other school?
Another question: what is your experience in terms of pastoral care and peer support? For students who may be bright, but a bit ‘nerdy’, those who may find it difficult to fit in socially… or who may have difficulty coping with schoolwork now and then…? What is your experience with peer teasing/ bullying in these schools? Would a co-ed or single-sex environment make a difference in this matter?
We are looking for a school that provide academic rigour but is also strong on pastoral care, and a school culture where the students and teachers are kind. Not overly competitive or mean or bullying
Thanks so much! -
Any of your kids taking Econs? Please share how to do well or is there any guide book/ good tutor to recommend?
Thanks -

You may want to consider an IP education leading to the IB since your child seems more broad base, good in Sci/Math and strong interest in the HumanitiesNUS High or SJI or RI?
