Review Underway of the Educational System

I thought we discussed the grading earlier in the petition page? Based on MOE, the grade awarded are fixed ie no quota etc.

If you score more than 91, than A* and so forth. Which is why you see so many A and A* for PSLE. But these are all pointless as what is really important is the t-score. The t-score is the moderation or normalisation. This is the real problem because even if you have 4A*, it is nothing if your t-score is the lowest among all the 4A*. So, pple are comparing if their A* is better than your A*. Basically I think t-score actually rank the whole cohort from 1 to 50,000. It is so damaging esp for kids so young.

I much prefer the O and A level where the moderation is done before they award you the grade. In that case, an A1 is an A1. No one compares and say I got a better A1 than you. ANd if you have 10A1 or 6A, no one compares and say my 10A1 or 6A is better. Or my first class honours is better than yours.

And what i don’t understand is that schools are already doing away with ranking the students and will only reveal the band their kids are in so that parents are not competitive and do no find out how they rank in school. But then for the BIG psle, they revert back to t-score! Just doesn’t make sense!

Somehow... :evil:[/quote] I'm thinking it could be the case in many schools where Mandarin is the more common lingua franca as compared to English or that Mandarin is indeed the mother tongue and not a second language (unlike our kids). On MediaCorp's free-to-air channels Channel 8 continues to be the dominant channel over Channel5, so there are probably quite a number of households who are more comfortable in Mandarin. So while our kids struggle with Mandarin, their challenge is English?

Something tells me that is NOT quite right... Somehow... :evil:[/quote]I just take a look of DD's CL prelim Paper 2 which is 90 marks out of 200 marks.

Higher in the level scored above 85, average score in the level 58++.

The pupils taking the CL is estimated about 220 - 230 (minus about 40 -50 pupils taking other MT).

May be most of the students would score well in oral (50 marks) and LC (20 marks)?
