Sorry didn't have time to read all the posts here. Could I ask a quick question?

If ds has frequent headaches and couldn't read the board from the last row, does that mean that he has myopia? Is it better to go to the optician or GP for eye checkup? Thanks.
I would suspect that it could be myopia and would bring him for checkup with either a very good optician or an eye doctor. I brought my DD to an eye doctor first as we had seen this doctor previously when she was still in N2 or K1. After confirming that she has myopia recently (fortunately very mild one), we brought her to an optometrist.

By the way, she didn't have any headaches. Don't delay further.

My humble opinion is that it is better to see a good dispensing optician since its probably just myopia. I recommended in another posting for someone to see Alex Chong at Eyewear Optics at level 1 Thomson Plaza. Alex also has an adjunct position at one of the polytechnics teaching students to become dispensing opticians. One thing Alex will do is to also assess whether there is a problem with the eyes that only an eye doctor can handle.

Thanks Busymom & pojo for the info. Quite sad if ds really has to wear glasses when he’s not even 7 yet.

Hello markfch, I know how you feel... DH was very upset when DD was confirmed myopic... You know la, girls... How to put on eye make-up when wearing glasses and still look good?... Anyway, there's always this thing called LASIK, so no need to worry since technology is so advanced... 😉

Thanks HappyMama. Yeah, I just feel sorry for ds, so young must wear specs already. Was at Orchard in the morning so popped over to the Eye Clinic at Mount E. Confirmed ds has minor myopia plus slight astigmatism.

Then to Optical 88. Just now ds sooo vain when choosing glasses, haha.

Yeah sall, saw him. Very good business he's having. Had to wait for an hr to see him.

He gave us a book - authored by him - about eye care for kids though (for free). So I'm not complaining 🙂

Your DS is so cute... 😄 I think generally kids like to wear specs. My DD was very happy choosing her specs too. We made at Mee Mee (Bt Timah Plaza) as it could be ready within 30 minutes.

By the way, my DD has astig too.
