The score via PSLE is at least 260. :lol:

Last year, the NUSH Admin advised those applying after receiving their PSLE scores that they had to have AT LEAST an A* in both Math and Science and a minimum aggregate of 250. Of course, they take in the best of the ones who applied and thus the cut off could have been more than 260.

Year 1 ( Phase 2)

The registration period for Phase 2 is only available after PSLE result are released.

Registration

1. Registration can be carried out under the section ‘Online Application’ on this website .
2. For those with no computer access, computer terminals will be set up at the NUS High School campus for applicants to register online.
3. Copies of the PSLE result slip are to be submitted upon request and are non-returnable.

Selection Criteria

1. Shortlisting of applicants will be solely based on the PSLE performance.
2. Applicants with aggregate score of 250 above with A* in both Math and Science are encouraged to apply.
3. Do take note that the aggregate range of 2008’s PSLE pupils posted to 2009 secondary 1 is 260-278

Note that last year, generally most of the top schools had a lower COP. Year before that was 2 or 3 points higher So got A* in math and science and 250+ means you can apply, but you most likely need 260+ to secure a place thru PSLE.

How do you find NUS High School so far? Any comments that you can share regarding the teaching method or the environment?

School life seems pretty much okay for now. However, I must let everyone know that I am pretty much a minimalist in modules so I may or may not be an accurate representation of the school cohort.

The teaching method is very...grown-up-ish. There is rarely much scolding in class and students are supposed to copy notes refer to notes given and stuff like that by themselves. If we need help in any subject, we have to consult the teacher ourselves. And overdue homework will not be chased after. Only a percentage of the marks for that piece of homework will be deducted. This is also a warning for parents with students who need to be \"prodded\" to work because a couple of my friends are like that and they...aren't doing so well, to say the least.

This is a little off-topic but it seemed the most relevant thread to post in. To take HCL in secondary school, one needs to be either:


1) top 10% of PSLE cohort; or
2) top 11-30% of PSLE cohort and have scored A* in MT or passed HMT.

Does anyone know approximately the cut off point for top 10% of cohort based on past years?

I think the top 10% of PSLE cohort is from 251 onwards. This is used to be the guideline to get into Special Stream.

Other interesting facts:


1. The independent secondary schools attract the Top 5 % of each PSLE cohort and are targeted at students who are
clearly university-bound.

2. The SAP schools normally attract the Top 10% - 20% of each PSLE cohort.

3. Students who are in the Top 10% of their PSLE cohort will be given an option by the Ministry of Education to study a foreign language (French / German/ Japanese)

4. NUS High School, SOTA and SST are targeted at students with specific talents.

But for those who continue to wish to opt for third language/is currently studying third language, jia yous ( cos receiving EOY marks soon rite?) :celebrate:

I agree, to learn a brand new language, esp at this age of 13 and busy school schedule, is not an easy task. Beside that, 3rd lang is 3 hrs lesson straight through, once a week. It can be very tiring and dry. But I choose to believe, no matter what we do, if we put in effort, it won't be very bad. Even if one does not get the best result, its still a good exposure.

My girl (Sec 1) is taking French and intends to continue for next year. 3rd lang is included in the total % calculations together with the school normal subjects. She is scoring 70+ for the overall year and I feel, this is reasonable, with the amount of effort she put in. I still believe, she can do better and hope she would next year.

And yes, it was very demoralised to see your classmates drop their 3rd lang, one after the other. She was also thinking of dropping it before the EOY exam but I kept encouraging her to hang on for the good exposure and experience. As long as she studies, she won't fail. As long as she is not failing, it won't do much harm to her total %.
