GEP 2011 - Screening & Selection

Snow Crystal:
but qualifying for round 2 does not equal to getting selected for the GE programverykiasu2010:
yup, I said it should be ..... because it is not (yet!)
Oh didn't know abt Pei Hwa history. Yes going by the number of kids gg round 2, definitely qualify. I am sure there are GE centers with lower number/percentage.
what is the actual number who actually qualify for GE ?
but PHPPS actually has been consistently producing good results
it shows that their system and processes are robust and is not totally dependent on any celebrity teacher in any specific year. teachers can come and go year in year out but the school still produces good results
it speaks volume
that is why i thought is should be a GE centre , but obviously MOE has other criteria -

what is the actual number who actually qualify for GE ?[/quote]I was thinking since the 9 GEP schools could cater to the selected 500, there's no justification for PH to open GEP classes. I wish it would though. Furthermore, those selected after round 2 were less than a class in the past, not sure whether the nos will increase over time. However, if more and more kids choose to stay back, maybe MOE can reconsider making PH a GEP centre.

besides headcount in terms of students who qualify, MOE must also take into account the number of GE-trained teachers available x number of subjects, human resources to man an GE centre
I think it is a mammoth task to set up one GE centre -
MOE won’t open another GE Centre. There’s no reason to. The 9 centres are more than enough to cater to the yearly intake. And even though GE Branch has marginally increased the number of offers it’s made to GE students, it can’t increase it much more because it will dilute the calibre of students it’s taking in.

I heard that this year’s first screening take in 30% of students and not the usual 8-10%? Anyone can confirm?

Zann:
Hey, this is just what this child's parents said. So maybe they did observe their originally \"saintly\" child changing lor. They preferred the religious environment of previous school. Anyway, the child already 18 now. Did very well even though transferred back to mainstream.
Very proud and arrogant attitudes that they didn't like their child being influenced with.
MOE didn't want the child to be taken out of GEP, so at first didn't allow or approve at all.
If this is true, you will see a lot of parents pulling out their kids from GEP. Due to my ds in GEP I have a good contact with his group of GE friends and I find them very mature and sensible kids. No proud and arrogant attitudes. My ds has a lot friends from mainstream also. Some from as long as from P1.。 -
Main stream in top school think GEP are howlian
Neighbourhood school think RI are howlian
True or false. Parents from GEP and RI will say FALSE. Parents from mainstream and neighbourhood school will say TRUE.
Personally I think there are some truth, at least 50%.
OK start firing I am going to hide. -

Did a simple test,
suppose this years student number is: 42000
30% of 42000: 12600
there are about 180 primary school in total, thus there should be average 70 students in each school pass round 1 test.
NYPS and PHPS have achieved their target, how about the rest?
Is this figue true? -
