Ali has 3 times as many marbles as Bala. After Ali lost 4 marbles and gave some marbles to Bala,, the two boys now have the same number of marbles.
Bala has 22 marbles now. How many marbles does Bala have at first?

thanks WCW for the model. but i still dont quite understand why the loss of 4 has to be shared among 2 units. usually the child will draw a portion of Ali's model and transfer it to Bala, and cut a line in Ali model to show that Ali now also has 22 just like Bala, and any bar that's left between that line and the transfer to bala is the 4 marbles that are lost. i find it hard to teach my girl where to cut the model to show the loss of 4 marbles.

also, for transfer questions, shd we draw model based on the At First situation ie 3 units vs 1 unit, or the In the End situation, ie both have same amt and then work backwards?? whc is easier?

find the total marbles and divide by 4
at the end both have 22 therefore 22x2=44
then add the 4 Ali lost =44+4 = 48
4u = 48
u = 12

therefore B has 12 at first

I have tried below, not sure correct :roll:

1st row: 3, 9 (3x3), 7, 7 (7x1)
2nd row: 4, 16 (4x4), 13, 26 (13x2)
3rd row: 5, 25 (5x5), 21, ? [color=#FF0000(21x3 = 63)[/color]

Ans = 63?

From this, can only know that
Q = 54-8-R= (46-R)cm

it seems there shdnt have a String R.. looks odd

1/3 is the same as 4/12 and half is 6/12. Red and yellow is 10/12. 18 is 2/12 of all the marbles. You get the answer by multiplying 18 and 6 which will give you 108.

The second question I cannot find.
