My guess is \"stench\" as it is comparing rafflesia to rotting meat

I agree, as stench means extremely unpleasent smell or odour. so it is more apt to use stench.

maybe a sudden stop wont throw the passengers off, but a violent stop will throw them off???
but i hv nvr heard of violent stop

I think the train stopped and jerked and it must be hard, so it's violent.
