        From GlaxoSmithKline

The most commonly reported side-effects are:

        - a sore throat or tongue. This may be due to ‘thrush’ (candida infection)
        - hoarseness or throat irritation

It is possible that some people, particularly those taking higher doses of Flixotide puffer for a long time, may rarely suffer from the following side effects:

        - rounded face
        - loss of bone density
        - eye problems (eg. cataract, glaucoma)
        - slowing of growth in children. It is unclear what, if any, difference this makes to their final height.

Do note that Flixotide puffers contain a medicine called fluticasone propionate. This medicine belongs to a group of medicines known as corticosteroids, frequently called ‘steroids’. But they are not ‘anabolic steroids’ which are the steroids sometimes misused by athletes.

Thanks For that info.although both spouse and I are not exactly big, I m a little concern if my gal growth is indeed affected, she is way below her peers in school physically. Beside, she has very irritable ENT, and occasionally complains of headache. She was hospitalized once and the doc sad she had pressure built up around the sinus.

Quite at a loss what else to do

My elder boy had asthma and to make it worse, he has got allergy and sinus as well. He is 8 this year. He was once hospitalized to suck out his phelgm from his sinus cavity. Terrible months were those. You can try buy some kid’s yoga book and start doing some poses which are good the respiratory tract.

              Hi kayetch

My 8yo son is on Nasonex, but how old is DD? According to the Dr, Nasonex has no \"steriod\"-like ingredient thus \"safer\" for kids. DS is on this spray once a day for his nose. And when the weather changes or gets hazy, DS's nose will be inflammed (swollen sinuses) and we will have to use it twice a day. It is effective at the moment. But we stop when his nasal cavity is clear. And I will always try to boost his immune system as much as possible by giving him nutritious stuff - chinese herbs in soup, honey etc.

My son is skinny and the Dr says that as long as he has this nose thing, his weight will not move up the scale so easily. So hang in there 🙂

              :hugs:

My girl has asthma too and has been coughing a lot recently. She is using Nasonex but so far, it does not seem to work. It used to but now not so effective. Any other suggestions?

I suggest you give kids yoga class a try 😂 For my boy, the frequency of attacks reduced significantly and now he seldom wheeze anymore unless he has been out for a long time in the rain.

I understand from his yoga teacher that some of the postures will help to open up the respiratory tract and certain breathing method can help them remove the mucous if there is.

No harm giving a shot since its school holidays now. If it works for your girl, that would be great then. :imcool:

I try not to give oral medication for something light like cough as all drugs come with some kind of side effect (drowsiness etc…). For my kids, if they’re coughing without phlegm, I would apply vicks under and over their feet before bedtime and cover with blanket/socks. It works like a charm.

I usually feed my DD with 1/4 tsp of Manuka honey. It's quite effective.

Especially now is the raining season, she will cough more at night. Partly becoz we stayed high floor and weather tends to get too cold at night. Sometimes, she will cough till vomit if she eats too full for dinner. 😓
