I believe the syllabus is tough for these kids. The Maths syllabus incorporates Sec 3 and Sec 4 stuff at year 2… really it is not easy…sometimes i really feel bad for the kids…at 255 psle scores they are supposed to be the top 10% of each cohort, but it does not mean that they will necessarily perform well under any type of school with any type of program…
the IP in DHS and that of RV and RGs/Ri and HCi, are they all the same?
Augmum,do you have any insight? Besides different computation for GPA, what else is different between them that you are aware of?
My gal’s form teacher said that as DHS does not have mid year examinations, some students actually are not used and trained to bear the stress and pressure faced to complete so many questions for Maths within a longer time frame.
Which then makes me wonder maybe they should have SA1 as well. What about the other IP schools, do they have SA1? -
Augmum:
Hi Augmum, really can exclude HCL? But dunman is a SAP school, i thought they should be very concern on HCL grades than exclude? Or are they changing their direction? :?for example, if they don’t do well in HCL, can exclude that for GPA computation ,
unlike in lower sec where one needs to include ALL subj for their GPA. -

Actually, it's not that tough. For RV Y1 maths, they were taught 1 chapter from Y3 bk and a bit from Y2. The rest are from Y1 textbk. For science, they may do a bit more.I believe the syllabus is tough for these kids. DHS cutoff isn’t 255. For this year sec 3-4, their cutoff were 260. This year sec 2 was 258, this year sec 1 was 257.
All IP schools incorporate some of sec 3-4 contents into sec 1-2. By sec 3, they are preparing some of the work for A level. Actually, they are making the contents more seamless and not a piece here and there. -

the quoting of 255 is to presume pupils with HCL bonus points of at least 2 to be added in.DHS cutoff isn't 255. For this year sec 3-4, their cutoff were 260. This year sec 2 was 258, this year sec 1 was 257.

yes, sec 1maths isnt that tough, but sec2 maths is a big jump fr sec1.
and not to mention that this yr eoy maths paper was a killer to majority of pupils..... -

A few top IPs are teaching in advance by 1-2 years ie Year 1 learning Year 2 to Year 3 syllabus eg Math, Science. By Year 4, I believe they cover some Year5 stuff too. Not for the faint hearted ....
