        hi phtthp

its not montessori. have read gd reviews abt this cc in this forum but that was dated a few years ago and not sure if things have changed since. visited the place, not too bad but prob will go down for a 2nd visit b4 i decide. sort of like the curriculum. i guess the main put-off is the price! :yikes:

no offense to anyone here, but i do wonder if the fees are priced higher than places cos there are quite a few expat kids in the sch.

          hi,

this is a very interesting thread.
I am at the stage where I am evaluating a childcare or a kindy for my child. He is turning 2 next year and I would like to put him in a school environment to learn and socialize.

I did my rounds with high end schools and mid range schools. A couple of observations from my visitations are that high end schools have younger and more energetic teachers, the curriculum also seems more structured. The food that they eat seems more balanced and nutritious.

Budget is the next criteria. My take is that they are only 2, I am unwilling to spend more than S$800 a month on them. So long that the envy is clean, the teachers are attentive and caring, the food is balanced, it will be good for the kids.
Some schools teach phonics at age 2, some age 3 and others age 4. So as parents, u decide what you want your kid to learn and when. If language is impt to you, make sure that the curriculum exposes them to it.

after putting ds in an expensive montessori, i wonder is it worth it to pay so much just for pre school education? i mean, as long as the child is not bullied, safe, learn something, then the centre is consider good?

some parents go for expensive schools, in the hope that their children will turn out to be scholars, academically faster than other children, but is it necessary?

            food for thought.

I think not very necessary unless got money to burn.

Ds went to an ordinary childcare and still did very well for primary school. No correlation in my humble opinion. Some ordinary childcare centres have good teachers too and prepare kids better for primary school. Some parents mentioned that Montessori schools may not prepare kids well enough for Singapore primary school system.

I think how the kid turns out also depends on parental guidance, exposure to enrichment classes, circle of friends etc.

i believe its all in the DNA of the kid and his aptitude.

there are a few schools of thoughts to this. some subscribe to the thinking that sending the kid to a good, reputed and expensive school. there should be enough learnings and it paves a good foundation for them.

Some personally coach the kids believing that its the best education and 1:1 ratio is the best.

Some treat the school as a very basic function, which is childcare and assumes that the kid learns something from it.

I think that each kid has his own destiny and pace of learning and i will provide for something within my budget. Due diligence has to be done to ensure that the place is where I want to place my kid and the rapport/trust i strike with the care givers.

If the increase in fees cannot be justified, then just go. Let your feet do the talking. In my opinion, it is not so much about the CCC, but what parents do with their kids, supervising their work and spending time with them reading etc...

                    😉

Both my kids are now in childcare and the fees is about $500 per pax after subsidy. Reasonable cos I have colleagues who are paying $700 after subsidy…

well, to be fair to the centre, they did not increase fees as and when they want lah. and they have very good curriculum. just that, we dunno how useful pre school curriculum are. some people say pre school not important, primary sch more important, some people say, pre school are the most important stage, coz at this tender age, they absorb the most knowledge, languages also easiest to learn at this age.
