My DS's school only released results of Maths, Paper 2 for Eng and Paper 2 for MT. All paper 1 results still unknown. But the overall ranking in class was announced 2 days ago.
In addition, no breakdown of Paper 1 for both of Eng and MT has ever been released in the past (DS in P2 this yr). I feel strange, is it confidential? (but nothing to be confidential what.....). :? -

She did that for section A, but not for this question. I believe she also just checked her own working but didn't bother to read the question again.

psst.. moving forward i'm giving her highlighters to encourage her to circle key point and hopefully the highlighting 'shouts' the key info to her! :xedfingers:
I made dd do the highlighting of the key info in her practise papers for Math. Could see that she did that for the 1st page but thereafter she skipped that step and that is when all the carelessness happen.
Question clearly said 'in the morning' and she went to choose the timing that indicated PM. The question said 1 plate of rice and 2 chix wings, she missed out the 2 chix wings. Haizz.
In my opinion, this Math exam could easily have been a full marks paper for DD. And she agreed but she got complacent and did not do a proper check at the end of the paper. She, too, felt it was an easy paper and thought she got them all correct so all she did was to check that she answered every question. :stupid:
Oh well, still above class and level average. Some carelessness is expected of kids this age I guess. So she can go climb that rock and let off some steam. -

My same sentiments. I ever checked with FT about it but they canno reveal. So until today, I have gotten partial marks for English and MT... which makes me \"kan cheong\" as I want to know the total marks my DS gets. Frustrating.... -

I've heard that many schools are adopting the same practice - especially for Paper 1 (Compo/Oral). Main reason was because some schools have problems with the parents who demanded to know why their kids are getting XX marks when they feel that their kids deserved more marks based on their own judgement etc. It ended up with parents challenging the teachers over the marks/grading etc especially for compo since the marking can be quite subjective, even if there are certain benchmarks to follow. If the earlier one is very strong with oral, he/she leaves such a good impression on the examiner, the next one will be in disadvantage position....silverhorse:

Oh, my P2 also asking for rock climbing and his brother will bring him to his gym to do that... (there's a jungle climb in Bedok and have you tried?)
Was thinking of checking out the one at Safra Yishun. Not sure if they allow kids below 10yrs old. Where in Bedok? Do they have the walls or just a boulder gym?
DH & I wanted to do the SNCS Level 1 so that we can do the belaying for our kids ourselves but so far the courses and our timing cannot coincide. So no choice loh, gotta pay for someone to do the belaying for the kids. -
My p5 boy scored 87 for his math but the sch principal expects the first class students to score min 91! So majority of them hv to go back during sch holidays to retake the test! Ridiculous!

There is no doubt about it that Piaget is one of psychology's Great Men. However, it might be good to note that university psychology textbooks have documented for many years that some key parts of Piaget's theoretical work have been falsified using newer and more rigorous experimental techniques. For knowledge to be documented in textbooks, it would have been floating around for maybe a few years before it is considered stable and reliable enough to get incorporated into a textbook. So... the field would have had doubts maybe a decade or so before year 2001 or so... Piaget died in 1980.
I thought I remembered reading round about the time when my son was just born (it was a 2nd year textbook), that it is quite widely accepted by researchers that the development of children doesn't move in neat stages. It would seem too that our MOE curriculum designers don't follow Piaget because the syllabus is chockful of hypothetico-deductive reasoning skills that traditionally have been addressed only in secondary school because this is part of the formal operational stage... and our kids seem to have no trouble coping. In fact, I noted hypothetico- deductive reasoning in my son from age 2.
If one follows Piaget, one risks underestimating the child's ability. Maybe need to be a wee bit careful though lor ... Be somewhat careful when thinking through Piaget.
It is a powerful theory but needs to be handled with care. Not all of it pans out.
