For me, dun care to buy Chinese books for P5 yet becos dunno whether son can get into HCL or not. By next weekend we should know, i guess.

Roughly you will know whether your son can continue with HCL or not based on CA/SA results. If they are in the 80 range, then teacher will recommend him to take HCL.
Yesterday was 'classing day', so report book should be out latest by Wed. I hope.

HMT is likely to be allowed when the pupil has no issues with the other 3 subjects (aka scoring good band1) and not failing MT.

My elder boy had his P5 HMT falling to low 70+ and was still allowed to continue with HMT in P6. Of course, we must also do sth on our end to ensure it did not get worse.

Having said this, I guess each year cohort also plays a role. During my elder boy's time, there were only 5 HMT classes. The 5th class had less than 30 pupils.
