service charge is rather ridiculous in singapore especially when many places don’t provide much of any good service at all…hmm maybe i’d be more willing to pay if they do give better service!

oh......that shd really brought it out ....
it reminds me of chinese restaurants charge for wet towels
even when u tell them that u dont wanna it.
We sometimes tell them to remove the tidbits upon seated and returned unused/unopened wet towels and the restaurants automatically deducted these charges from bill.

My hubby say if he ask for plain water at kopitiam and they charge him $0.20 or $0.30. He will order 100 cups, make them run out of cups!

            insider:
for me it depends on the services provided.

I am not willing / extremely reluctant to pay $0.30 for water in Crystal Jade (great world) coz of dirty cups and less than satisfactory services (plates like threw in front of you, tea spilled when pouring in an 'anyhow' manner). However, I am more than willing to pay $2/pax for tea in Imperial Treasure (also great world branch) and on top of that, I will still tip. I am willing coz of the cleanliness of the culteries provided and the promptness of the change of those culteries with alert and courteous services. i ditched crystal jade for more than a year oredi and never look back...

initially the popiah stall near my place charged $1 a piece which included some prawn and lup cheong. Ever since she increased the price to

$1.20, the prawn/lup cheong are gone and now only include cucumber, towgay, peanuts and teeny weeny boiled eggs.

Food prices at primary school canteen also ridiculously high for that miserable portion. 80cents for that tiny bowl- those soup bowl that comes with your dry noodles.

the stall owners don't need to pay rental right?

Figure they still have to, but probably subsidised rates.
