Hi Pepper spice, welcome to the RV thread. Just like you, I also learn a lot from other RV parents here. For Add maths and E maths, if these 2 are considered 1 subject, then do the students take 2 whole papers and then, the marks are combined or what? Or are the topics kinda mixed together for A and E maths?

Heard that 160 places taken up by DSA students. So left 240 places for Y1 next year.

Thanks for the welcome.
Justsay, for 1st choice, my son chose 3 sciences + geography. I wasn’t very comfortable with him doing 3 sciences because he is not the hardworking type and his HCL is not good. However, he says he finds the 3 sciences interesting, so he wants to have a go at it.
For 2nd choice, he chose 2 sciences + biomed elective + geography. -
Hi everyone, I am a student from RVHS, going year 3 next year. My mum who stumbled across this forum told me that there are amy queries about the subject combi for year 3 students next year, and she has asked me to clarify things to help you all understand the system better.

All students will take at least 9 subjects. However, for students offering bicul/triple science will have to take up 10 subjects. The subjects are:
1. English Language Arts
2.HCL
3.Singapore Comparative Studies
4.CID
5.E maths
6.A maths
7.Science1 for students taking normal stream, humans1 for students taking 2 humans
8.Science2 or students taking normal stream, humans2 or students taking 2 humans
9.Humans1 for students taking normal stream, science1 for students taking 2 humans
10.Bicul/ science3 for triple science students/ elective (optional)
As I read previous comments, I realised that there are a lot of questions posted. Hopefully these can help you all:
1. ELA is not totally english literature. Yes, it contains certain literature components but English Literature ( a humans subject ) will touch on more things and in greater depth
2. RV lit is part of the HCL programme in RV, it is being taught in Chinese lesson (though on the timetable it specifically says rv lit), which aims to help students to understand more about the chinese history and culture.
3.Singapore Comparative Studies (SCS) is a subject on it's own, and it's similar to Social Studies... According to the briefing, it teaches students about Singapore's furture developments and compares Singapore's history with the present and the future.
Yepp, I guess that's about it. All the best!

What is CID?
-
@ Yesterday - thanks for taking time to help us aunties/uncles (thanks to your mum too!). Your explanations are very clear and I have a better picture now. When I try to get info from my son, half the time he will reply “I dunno”.
@ jtoh – CID refers to Construct, Integrate, Differentiate. It is part of RV’s IP curriculum. Exactly what it is I am not too sure (I leave my son alone where school work is concerned), but daisyt mentioned earlier on that it is something like project work in A levels. -
Thanks pepper spice.
