:celebrate: my son also \"all of the above\" !!
kohjl:
The Question is:
I think soMummyJamie:
mummyjamie & sahimi
my girl said biceps/triceps (is labelled as one letter) & the other one is the fulcrum - the elbow. So it is P & R?
The diagram shows a man exercising by raising a dumbell. Which of the following are needed for this action?
a) The biceps and the triceps
b) The elbow
c) The lower arm (bone)
My answer: All of the above.
Reason: The lower and upper arms are like levers. The elbow is the fulcrum, the muscles apply the effort and the lower arm is part of the lever. So, you need all three!

Same here. Daughter said paper is tricky. Needs to be careful when answering questions.sunshine:

Daughter said wasnt easy if think through the question properly. It's tricky. -

Diagram doesn't seem to be the same as the one in exam. Ans provided also different, right?
Im new in this forum. I think what he/she meant was the question with bulbs P,Q and R. P and Q are arranged in series but an additional R is added on below in parallel arrangement with an open switch beside it.shinystars:
Please click on the picture at the bottom to see Diagram for a clearer explanation.
Iโve labeled the bulbs as A and B because I canโt remember what letters the examiners had put.
The Question:
Bulb B is shining at a light intensity of 10 units. After pushing the button, bulb B
1) would not light up.
2) would become brighter.
3) would become dimmer.
4) brightness would remain the same.
My answer: 2
My reason: 1 Battery gives 10 units of electricity. After pushing the button, the lever will move up and touch the upper point. As the 3 batteries are now connected with the bulbs, each bulb has 15 units of electricity flowing through them. Since 15 units is more than 10 units, bulb B becomes brighter.

actually i meant the mcq with the total of 3 bulbs, not the metal rod question. The question that asks: If one more bulb is added to the circuit, what would happen to the brightness of the first bulb which was arranged in series?
The question asks, if the switch is closed, what will happen to the brightness of P?
I put as bright as before for P as bulb R is added on in parallel arrangement and therefore it will not affect the brightness. Not sure... -

You have a very promising son, kohjl. Not because of his excellent answers to the questions, but his humble demeanor that conveys a maturity beyond his age. There was none of that unbridled \"I-win-you-lose\" lip displayed by some of the other kids after the math exam last week.... FINALLY got my A/C back.... my son had hijacked it for most of this evening. He wanted to answer just one or two questions, but got carried away.
That's fine with me...helped to \"bump up\" my post ratings... ...
It gives me great hope and confidence that we locally-bred Singaporeans are going to have a future in our own country. -
ChiefKiasu:
yes, fully agreed. Good academic results and character.

My exact same thoughts. The words 'maturity' and 'humility' came to mind immediately. You should be very proud, kohjl.

thank you
my girlโs ans is same as you for rod (magnetism & gravity)
For the additional parallel bulb, brightness is the same. -

Thanks so much for your encouraging comments. I appreciate it a lot!
And yes, I am very proud of him and how he is growing up.

kohjl:
You are superb, especially your second reason. Bull-eye.
The Question:
There are 2 diagrams. The first shows a snake slithering (but the question put it as crawling) and the other shows a lizard running.
NOTE: The question already stated that the lizard moves faster than the snake (not travel a longer distance).
Then the question asked: Give 2 reasons.
My answer:
Reason 1:As the whole snake's body is in contact with the sand while the lizard only has its feet on the sand, there will be more friction between the snake and the sand than the lizard and the sand. So the lizard will move faster.
Reason 2: As the snake moves in a zig-zag while the lizard moves in a straight line, the snake has to move a longer distance than the lizard.
But I am not sure whether my asnwer is correct. Can anyone confirm? Thanks.
