      Hello everyone,

Like to join in this network since my DD is in P1-8 next year!

I'm excited & at the same time scare... Not sure whether she can cope in such a good & challenging school. I'm a working mother so do not have a lot of time to coach her.

Any advice on how to prepare her?
Do most children have private tuition?

      Thanks & I welcome all advice! 🙂

Soli, reflection is bro Trap's job. My job is to create silly little humour mingled with the occasional serious posts to remind people that I'm an adult. 😂

Yalor yalor, top 20 in PH is minimally T-score 260+ and above. What about we hold the next gathering in Happy Mama's house. I want to see how does a top 20 student look like? :siam:
Aiyo, it doesn't guarantee that she'll get >260 for PSLE. 😉

Hmm :scratchhead: Nothing special about her looks. 2 eyes, 1 nose, 1 mouth, 2 ears etc, though she does look quite lovable. 😆 :rotflmao:

Ok, how about that? If I really do have a small gathering for some PH KSP parents, you'll definitely be on the invite list. 😉

          Funx3,

Your DD getting her results this Thursday! Keke … .I hope PH will be able to produce the top student. If not, at least 1 or 2 top 10 this yr.

Spoke to someone who has 3 choices of schools to choose from next time for his children. One is PH and the other 2 are GEP schools. His first choice is PH!!! Reasons given were PH is quite good in developing a child’s character + a balance environment for the 2 languages. So glad that my DS is in PH!

            :welcome:

P1-8 is a very special class in PH. I observed that usually the parents of this class are very involved type. Both E3 & php's dd were formerly from this class too.

I think the emotion you're going thru is understandable. You know the Chinese adage, 船到桥头自然直 is very true. Everything will fall into place naturally, as long as we don't fret over the small stuff.

From your post, I sensed that you're worried about the lack of time to coach your child. If time is a premium, then imo we should do the task which gives the biggest reward first. So if I were you and I only have time for one subject, I'll just focus on Chinese (both reading and speaking). This is what others advised me last year and I see the wisdom of it.

For the rest of the subjects like English & Maths, without a doubt it'll be good to coach them too. But it's not the end of the world if we don't because what we have here (in S'pore) is an English learning environment - our kids will be able to pick them up easily by themselves anyway.

Btw I'm postulating that your family background is similar to mine, that is a non-Chinese speaking environment.

Hi Happymama, It's encouraging to know that there is still hope to be able to make good progress later on. 😄 Do they stream every year now ? Top 20 - that would mean in the top class I suppose (Charity).

For a P3 kid, how long can we expect a kid to sit down and do the assigned task (assessment) assuming say 10 pages of math ?

Hi hl124273, yes she will be in the top class next year, but they now call it 4 Teamwork 9 instead of Charity 4. During DD's time, they were streamed when they were in Pri 1. The kids now are luckier, streamed at Pri 2.

As for your other question, I share the same sentiments as php. 😄

I never knew my DD has streaming in P2. I guess the only time left to coach her will be after work at night (provided no night calls), after marking the assessments that she is tasked to do during the time when I am out at work. That way, then I can assess her weakness and go through the mistakes.

                    hihi Dion,
I'm happy to find another parent whose child is in the same class as my DD - P1-8 😄 Welcome here! Will send u a PM later.

                    Mark,
Didn't know P1-8 has so many famous alumni 😂
I would like to be a very involved parent come next year, but but but, I find it challenging even when I imagine a tired mom after work trying to coach a tired child after school at night.

                      Happy Mama:
I would also like to highlight that different kids 开窍 at different pace. Take DD for example. She wasn't as good when she first entered Pri 1, but now, she has made a quantum leap and progressed on to top 20 position in standard (based on our findings). So parents, don't despair and don't give up if your kids have not 开窍. 继续加油!!!

                      Wow... Impressive! :salute:
Was it as a result of u quitting your job to stay at home to coach her? How did you made her 开窍?
I've that 冲动 to quit & stay at home to coach my DD next year... Still thinking hard...
