Hi anyone knows how reliable is the information given by Edupoll :-


Edupoll’s Top 5 Girl Schools in Singapore ( by prestige ) are:

1.Raffles Girls’ Secondary School ( PSLE cut-off: 265)
2.Nanyang Girls’ High School ( PSLE cut-off: 262)
3.Singapore Chinese Girls’ School ( PSLE cut-off: 254 )
4.Methodist Girls’ School ( PSLE cut-off : 253 )
5.CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School ( PSLE cut-off: 250 )

My fren's dd is freaking out upon reading the above as her T-score is 256 & her dream school is RGS. Anyone has any input?

256 for RGS looks too difficult leh...

Anybody know whats the top 10% COP T-Score for this year PSLE?

In case this has not been mentioned yet, with regards to appeal, the school to be appealed to (if necessary) has to be first choice to show ‘commitment’ and also stand better chance of successful appeal.


Except for govt-aided schools, I believe for most of other sec schools, appeal can only be successful if a student is transferred out. And from what I have found out so far, the school intake number also matters. How many other students does the child have to compete for place, if aggregate is way off the previous COP or even current COP?

Current school teachers advise me to stick to schools within 5points aggregate of last year’s COP. Personally, dd and I feel no harm in putting down better performing schools as top choices and also be prepared to be posted to 4th choice or below.

While I was initially adamant about appeal, after thinking through past couple of days, listening to talks in sec schools and very importantly discussing with dd, I will accept the posting and look forward to the best times ahead for dd.

Personal observation and experience has shown me that appeal process can be very unsettling for the student. We just want to move on, work harder and look forward to the new experiences awaiting.

DD got 247. Trying to appeal to scgs. But agonizing over the 2nd choice cause wthat will prob be a more confirm place. Nan hua or bukit panjang govt ?

DD prefer Nan Hua cause the classrooms are air conditioned, their CCA. I like bpgh because it s like only 1/2 hour from where we stay compared to Nan hua that will prob takes 1 hour including walking (15mins). Am concern with the Chinese environment cause dd is not really strong in her Chinese but she said she s ready for this challenge and think that it will help to improve and maybe stir her interest in the language.
But putting the 2 on the table , which school is a better choice cause their cop are the same ?

Any one can help ?

Hi, I have posted this on another thread. But anyway, here's my two-cents' worth:

I would recommend BPGHS myself, having been a student there. First of all, it is a Band 1 school, which means students score an L1B5 average of <11 points for O levels, which is pretty commendable. Nan Hua, on the other hand, is a Band 2 school, according to the information booklet. It may not be the best indicator of which is a better school, but this may be the most objective source available.

Based on my experience in BP, I would say most of the students there turn out well, both in terms of academic and character development. The academic curriculum is challenging, but it prepares students well for the O levels. For instance, I was told by a teacher that lower secondary students are often given lesson materials from the upper secondary standard, and the upper secondary students are given materials from tertiary standards e.g. JCs. I believe this is the reason for BP students' strong performance in the O levels, especially in the subjects of Mathematics and Science.

I won't deny that I don't feel much of an affiliation to the school, because it was never my first choice (it was SCGS). But I feel compelled to speak in favour of BP because I have, indeed, benefited from an education there. In fact, my father was so impressed with the school that he convinced my younger sister to enter it too. Both of us turned out well, if i may say so myself. And BP was also at a much more convenient location for us, since we're staying at CCK.

Sorry I can't speak for Nan Hua. Perhaps someone else is better positioned to do so.

I would like to know whether I should try out for SBC Class in MGS as my friend told me that going into SBC would increase the chances of getting into the IB in 2014. Anyone can confirm this?

Do you think the COP will go up by more than two points this year?[/quote]Nobody can tell, really depends on the demand. If I were you, I'd just put RGS as the first choice. I think there's a high chance, but like always, things are never guaranteed. There were years when the cutoff was below 260 when many just avoided thinking COP would be high.

DD wanted to take Japanese as third language. Can she withdraw from the language class if she cannot cope with it after sec 1 or sec 2?

My DS scored 252. He hopes to get into ACSi’s IB program. We already selected through the internet. The moment the school code was entered, "ACS I - O level Program" was the return with ACSI in the list of schools selected . I am wondering if that means that the system has allowed him to apply for the O level track only. Can anyone that has a higher score (say 255 and above) share if you have a return of " ACS I - IB Program" if you have selected ACSi as one of your 6 choices? Thanks.
