Fur-ma:
I attended the public forum by SNEC (Singapore National Eye Centre) recently. Yes, altropine eyedrop is the only proven treatment for controlling the myopia progression. The second study of altopine eyedrop with lower dosage by SNEC will complete next year. And SNEC will set up a myopia clinic for children next year.My dd went for her review at KKH recently and with the help of atropine drops the last 4 months, her degree seems to have stabilised. So relieved. Doc says to continue with drops.
I am very concerned that once she starts P1, it may go up again. Will just have to keep nagging at her to practise good eye habits. Hope atropine is helping the other kids here -

hi, is dr ho good? how much is ur child's myopia?Yeah sall, saw him. Very good business he's having. Had to wait for an hr to see him.
He gave us a book - authored by him - about eye care for kids though (for free). So I'm not complaining

My DS has been under atropine drop for the past 1 year and his myopia has been under good control. Before the program, his degree increased at a frightening 200-300 rate yearly!
Doc advised to keep him in program for another year till his early teen. Hope he can complete by next year. -
Sometimes I pity those kids who have to wear glasses at such a young age. It must be a pain to see adorable little kids have myopia and astigmatism. Thankfully for science, there is a health fruit juice that can improve eyesight and astigmatism. Proven and recommended effective by many parents. Those parents who are interested can pm me for more info. Lastly bless all kids to have a wonderful life and future. ī

Hi Marylampsg and all here,
Not all kids who wear glasses have myopia or astigmatism. Some kids need to wear glasses because they have a visual impairment, and wearing glasses help them see better. A kid I know have this condition, and it pains the parents when others make unwarranted comments about their child. -

How much do you pay for this?My DS has been under atropine drop for the past 1 year and his myopia has been under good control. Before the program, his degree increased at a frightening 200-300 rate yearly!

If I remember correctly, $600 for a one year program, which includes 6 follow up checks n consultation + 12mths supply of eye drops. On top of the mentioned, child needs to wear glasses with progressive and transition lenses which is more costly. Personally think it is still worth it as my DS has not change his specs for the last one and half year.

My 6yo girl has just been found to be myopia( -1.25 on each eye) 2 weeks ago. My heart sank as I had taken preventative measures since young. However, I do agree that there were times when she strained her eyes to do her work/read. I want to find alternatives to wearing glasses as it is not a solution to help myopia. In fact, I find it worsen myopia but can't explain why until I found some research on how glasses worsen myopia.
We have been using a single lens to see different distances. However our eyes are like a camera that zoom in and out effortlessly. The lens used in glasses are good for 20feet away( 6m) and each time we used it for shorter distance it is incorrected used, straining our eyes and in turn worsen myopia ( my opinion). The board in class is usually 2-3 metres away. We should have different lens for different purpose RATHER than a single lens for different distance.

I have decided to delay the used of glasses for my girl. In the meantime, we make many changes to our daily lives in hope to help her vision improve. We did eye exercises, sun our eyes, consume lots of fruits and veggies that are good for eyes. We reduce night activities to the minimal and only do eye related activities during the day. We changed our sleeping patterns, waking up an hour earlier since they now sleep at 8pm instead of 9pm. It has been 2 weeks and I have been using DIY eye chart to \"test\" her vision. There seem to be slight improvement. I have arranged for a eye retest in a week's time. Wil see how it turn out.
If I really need to get her glasses, I will make sure the lens are just nice for classroom settings rather than 6m. -
