If someone got a CO from a school through DSA. Then if the person did extremely well in PSLE and decided to appeal for the top school, what are his or her chances?
MOE is clamping down on such cases from this year. So if you have a CO and have exercised that CO, you will not be allowed to appeal to another school using your PSLE results. Many schools are taking this MOE directive seriously. -

Thank you..... :D[/quote]It wasn't that strict last year and the years before that. Know some schoolmates who DSA CO to NYGH but appealed to RG instead. Also heard of a few cases for HCI CO to RI.jtoh:

Exactly. The appeals have been going on for years because the schools entertained them and MOE turned a blind eye. It's been making a mockery of the DSA process and MOE decided enough was enough this year. BUT let's wait and see if any appeals are successful this year shall we?

i thought i read somewhere in this forum that one can only appeal to a school if she/he has chosen it as first-choice -
Choco05:
maybe MOE decided to be stricter this year which makes sense. otherwise, they will make a mockery out of the dsa programme - i mean, it'll defeat the purpose of having dsa.

oh but i heard the parent of this child sent in the appeal to the top school already. Also, I read that must at least wait until the posting results out first then can appeal, though chances not high because of the stricter measures taken by MOE. -
actually what is the purpose of entering Sec schools via DSA in the first case ? what advantage of DSA does it bring ?
if after psle release results those with better results immediately quickly rush down to respective school & appeal, might as well just rely on psle & drop this whole idea of DSA, instead of now make DSA a mockery, defeat the whole purpose ?
if you say DSA is to identify CCA sports talents, to let academic talents enter school first, canβt the same objective be achieved or met after the release of psle results, ie. (able to identify talents via CCA, or via particular subject academics + able to achieve at least minimum target COP) then can enter particular hot, popular top Sec school(s) ? -

Each DSA process allows some schools to collect some $$$ ? :evil:actually what is the purpose of entering Sec schools via DSA in the first case ? what advantage of DSA does it bring ?

Does anyone have any statistics on how many students actually appealed after PSLE, after accepting CO? Is it a case of jumping on the bandwagon?
1) The child has to be there for 4 to 6 years, not us, not MOE. DSA period is usually a busy and stressful time. If a child makes a wrong decision during DSA, is it wrong to appeal after he has a better idea of what he wants? We are talking about a 11 to 12-year old kid. We cannot assume that he is making a frivolous decision. If he wants to appeal, is it wrong to give him the benefit of the doubt that he is serious about it. (Not a scholarship bond).
2) Perhaps DSA helps to relieve some administrative workload after PSLE. Hence,DSA. I personally believe that many who DSAed would stick to their decisions. Appealing requires work. It is stressful waiting for the outcome. In short, it is no fun.
3) I personally hope that MOE will not have a blanket statement and say no more appeals henceforth.
