Not quite true....salary goes up by 3% per annum but inflation rate is 5% per month.

The issue which the operator is trying to resolve is \"making taxis\" which is some 22k work force be more receptive to picking passengers..

consumers gripe on how taxis are always missing. Taxis are also aware of the peak charges, so they would rather \"appear\" during those times so earn \"higher income\"

COE has also increased so operators can't just keep adding taxis on the road... and need to keep up with the demand... ultimately it is turning into a \"need\" to take a taxi rather than a luxury..?

taxi drivers doesn't get 3% or 5% increment and their rental did go up beginning of this year. the increase becomes their \"increment\" and help fund their inflation costs..

I just feel sad when I read the comments on the newsroom and how everything is pay and pay... but really at times if you take away the anger and look at it. there are other reasons why increases are happening..

:offtopic: the only thing I dont hear complaints about is the \"rising cost of travel or group packages...\" in fact , boost.... so people around me bee yach about rising cost but travel every few months... this really baffles me :?

Wait a minute.. Peak period surcharge change from 6pm-8pm to 6pm-midnight???? :yikes:

Extend by another 4 hours! :?:

And how come the taxis are never around when you need them?
Might be \"hiding\" to wait for people to do booking?

If cab fares increase is high, then less people will take cabs and ultimately the cab driver will lose out.

I think lta wants to encourage local to take public transport, mrt and buses.

Taxis, then can be easily available for the increasing number of tourists in Singapore.

However, I dun think this will be the case.
S'poreans will probably forget about the price hike very soon and will take taxi just like now.
The demand and supply problem will be surfaced again.
And it will be worse for local as more drivers will likely stay ard city to get earn those surcharges etc.

I donโ€™t mind small increments to defray costs of operations, but here is a missed opportunity to craft a fare structure that enhances the ridership experience. In my view, advance booking should be the way to go, in order to save on fuel costs and is greener than empty cruising, BUT, it should not motivate the cabbies to sit and hide to wait for a fare and refuse to pick up passengers trying to flag taxis down during certain hours. It is promoting conspiratorial behaviours amongst taxi drivers and is hugely frustrating to commuters. $8 advance booking is plain predatory pricing!

They better make sure the MRT can handle the load first..

seems that they already have difficulty with current peak hour load..

Once we had to book a maxi cab, worried that we could not find one, we made advance booking, it cost $16 just to make an advance booking for the cab.

With the revised advance booking for normal cabs, it will be like the rate for immediate booking of maxi cab.
