      Thanks hquek.

Yah the scabs do look nasty. B4 the op, I was of the impression that the only wound will be on the foreskin, did not know that the head of the penis will be affected. If ever (quite impossible lah) I have another boy, circumcision will be done at infancy.

        Hi funz,

I did think about it for DS2 (though he had no problems). but I wonder very hard how to let him wear diapers and if it’ll be worse since he cannot control his pee during babyhood. So I dropped the idea.

          Funz:
@Tigger, the total bill came up to $1518. Think medisave will cover 30%. The rest, depends on your insurance.

@ken26ksh, DS was referred to Dr SL Cheah from Children & Babies Surgery. Tel 6735 3886. Located at #07-06 Gleneagles Medical Centre.
          Dear Funz

Thanks for info. Will call up and make appt soon! :goodpost:

Funz, thanks for updating me on the total bill. 😄

Glad the op is over for your DS. I can understand how you feel when you were in the op theatre with him. I did the same when my DS1 had a nasty cut on his forehead and need to go through surgery to stitch up his wound. I had to calm him down inside the op etc.

Takes about 2 to 3 weeks. Scabs will make the wound look grosser than it is. After the wound is heal, time has to be given for the organ to lose a bit of its sensitivity.

There is no such thing as childhood phimosis if the child is urinating. Tight and clinging to the glans is the normal natural state of a child’s foreskin.

Adult phimosis is not common in families where a child is not discouraged from touching his own genitals. His curious manipulations will loosen the skin tube with time.

The appropriate remedy for adult phimosis (if he wishes to become retractable) is a few months of gentle finger stretches with a steroidal ointment called Betamethasone (0.05% - 0.1%).

If that doesn’t work or he can’t wait, there is a non-amputating surgery called "triple incision dorsal slit with transverse closure" which will get the job done. Note this is just a minor well-controlled version of the traditional Philippine "chop" style of "circumcision" (which is not what Westerners call circumcision). It is performed in three spots (9 o’clock, 12 o’ clock, and 3 o’clock) so each chop can be very subtle.

My ds had his circumcision at Sidek clinic @ Eastpoint. http://www.sidekclinic.com/

The procedure was over in 15 minutes, and ds was given a cert and goodie bag after that. It costs us less than $100 as the rest was payable thru medisave.

Hi, son p1 will be going thru circumcision surgery this week. I read about some feedbacks from this thread. it seems like a horrendous experience. Now I start to worry the surgery aftermath. Anything I can do to reduce his discomfort? What other things shld I take note after the surgery?

Anything scheduled is not an emergency. Tight foreskin in a child is natural and normal.

Amputative surgery should only be a last resort after less destructive options are exhausted. Anything that can wait should wait for the patient's own fully informed consent unless waiting would lead to harm.
