Do you like your job?

Yes, yes, yes....People join companies.
People leave managers / bosses.
It's a quote I heard from a seminar trainer. It's so true.
People join bcos of the company but leave bcos of their boss..... :goodpost: -

I was in a job that required 3 months' notice too. The only way is to get another company to buy you out. That could mean zero notice too! That's what I did but it burnt bridges lah... hahaha
but the world is round, we can't afford to burn too many bridges bcos who knows one day will meet the same boss again during an interview ...

very interesting tool.... :rahrah:\"working is a tool for making money\" This is indeed very true! At this moment, I do feel that I m now working because of money and nothing else.
I found the link below by chance. It is a salary calculator to see how much you are getting compared to others of same age group and gender in Singapore.
http://www.salary.sg/2011/benchmark-your-monthly-pay-by-age-gender-2011/
I didn't think there was a need to compare before but this calculator did help me feel better. Its also interesting to know men in Singapore are still getting paid more than the women.
Just for the fun of it, check out the salary calculator! I did it to make myself feel better. My gal would probably reply \"how lame!\"
how then we should feel happy? top 50%, 25% or 10%??? -
This tool not accurate lah… coz the median will get pulled down by the really low income earners. It’s not comparing with people who have the same educational level. I checked for females and the median is quite low. Getting above 50% is not satisfactory at all. For females earning above $10K, they belong to top 6% of the female population here.

Do companies really do that? They would have to pay your previous employer your three months salary right?

Some companies give their prospective employee a 'sign-on' bonus, meaning they give the employee an amount equivalent to what the employee is supposed to pay to the current employer for not serving notice. This way the new employer is not 'involved' in the process of 'buying out' the employee from the current employer, although it basically serves the same purpose lar...Do companies really do that? Yup, my fren’s employer gave the sign-on bonus and she settled her own termination fee. My employer decided to write a cheque directly to my old employer but that meant my old employer knew where I was going lah…
So far I only heard of MNCs doing this - buying over the employee - to prevent a long wait. Most local companies will tell you to offset your annual leave or just wait for you to complete your notice period. -

depending on age... for those above 40 i guess $20k is the benchmark for top 10% high flyer... -
I informally told my boss that I would like to apply for the 8am to 5.30pm working hour arrangement in 2012, when my girl goes on to morning session and she needs to sleep by 8+pm.
He told me a lot of caveats like \"at 5.30pm everyone else will be still around but you are leaving, the top boss might not like it etc etc etc....\" So indirectly he's saying that if he says yes to me, it might be difficult for him to be accountable to his boss *blah blah blah*
Initially I still think of suggesting that I take a 30 min lunch break (instead of the 1-hour) so that I can go back earlier as well. But I think no use suggesting it at all
*Sigh*
Is it so difficult for companies to embrace work from home or part-time work arrangement? Sometimes I wonder if companies here have more \"trust\" in their employees, in this age of technology, a lot of work can be accomplished via working from home. But everyone still have this facetime mentality....Nobody says anything when people come in late, go for 2-hour lunch breaks, coffee/tea breaks, but if people leave punctually stares will be exchanged. KPIs etc seem to have taken a very back-seat...
Very sad culture isn't it?? -
Agree totally. I left my job to be SAHM partly becoz company cannot allow flexible hours and work from home option. I was also penalized for my maternity leave at the appraisal. My boss actually dared to say he has to discount my bonus as I was only in the office for 8 out of 12 months (16wks maternity leave). I worked my ass off while I was pregnant and completed all my KPIs!
