Hi pepper spice and justsay, the only HMT text she bought in Y1 was the two Y1 textbooks.
sall, a neighbour whose DD is in DHS Y1 showed me her DD's HMT textbooks. I realised that the books are totally different from those that my son's batch is using. My son's batch is the last batch using the old syllabus and your DD is the new batch using the new syllabus. Maybe that explains why Y2 books not purchased and taught in Y1 for your DD (ie. the new syllabus Y2 books are not published yet!)
PS: my son's batch is the last batch for many things in primary school too - old syllabus MT, study solar system etc in science. Your dd batch is the pioneer batch. -
Hi pepper spice, you are right. dd is the first batch to use the new syllabus text. Most likely it is not ready yet. That’s why it wasn’t in the bk list.

Justsay, has your daughter bought any Y3 textbooks? My son has not bought a single one, I am getting quite nervous of his bochap-ness. Heard that upper sec is going to be tough.

Mine not yet too...she said hasn't got the complete booklist, the one they have is for some of the misc stuff like 稿纸 etc. She is more excited to know if she'll be in the same class as her friends... -
The higher u go, the lesser textbooks to buy. Dd told me only need to buy 1 book.

Son printed out the whole list showing the cohort’s subject combi. I noticed from list that there are numerous kids with NRICs starting with 94, 95, 96 and even 98. When I asked son about the 94s, he said they are probably the China students and are 3 years older. If son is correct, then when son’s batch is 15 years old, they are 18. When son takes A levels at 18 years old, they are 21 (which is the age - for girls - graduate from university!) -

Yes nowadays quite common to find such older kids among the secondary school cohorts, and usually from China. Guess their English set them back by a year or two, but they pick up English real fast.Thanks, justsay and daisyt.

difference of 2 years is already a lot, diff of 3 years?! me finds it difficult to stomach. tsk tsk tsk

PRC scholars are usually 1 year older. At the most 2 years older, 3 years older is too much.

When the PRC scholars join our students in Sec 3, most of them have already completed their secondary school education. They find our sec sciences and math very simple as they have already covered them.
