So by the time they go to P1, they are at par with kids of same age?

From what I have observed, by mid of K2, they are already on par or even better than the others.

think when they r younger, the maturity level is obvious when they attend classes…maybe up to K2 or P1.

In terms of ability to cope academically , think by K1/K2 most will have no problem.

In terms of academic abilities, they are no difference from the rest same year. The main problem with my Dec boy was his handwriting :stupid: . However, after all these years, he still has bad handwriting. So, dunno if I was right to attribute his clumsiness to him being a Dec boy or not.... :? BTW hw will be Pri 4 next year.

I think it is easier to catch up in the cognitive domain, but not the psychomotor skills. For the cognitive part, can catch up by nursery. For the psychomotor skills, it will take longer, by mid-primary.

My girls (just turned 6 and 4 last dec) are dec kids.

In terms of academic, I think they are on par with their peers by K1. In terms of maturity of thinking, I think they maybe a bit slower or maybe that is their character even in K2. In terms of physical development, my girls are the smallest in class. Again that maybe due to the genes. Hopefully they will catch up soon. In terms of motor skills, my eldest girl is on par with peers from end of N2 onwards. However, practice makes perfect. On penmarkship, I think it’s more the personality of the child than the age. My eldest is very particular about her writing, she will take her time to write nicely. My younger girl is not so particular.

Not all Dec kids are slow and immatured. My boy achieved bursary merit and scholarship from P1 till last year Sec 2! Amazing! I can’t believe too. So, don’t worry, they can do it.

I have a dec born child too. Quite worried whether he will be in par with his classmates in P1.

Me too…teachers say she slower than the rest…but slow in one area doesnt mean slow in all areas…so i just dun want to stress her.

                        but its worrying nevertheless.
