I do like this suggestion. It still boils down to profit driven management. No profit driven company would think of this because it has a social agenda to it. There was a time when elderly folk had concessionary fares. That was taken away in the name of fairness. Now it is pay per distance. Some old folks go out less because of this. I talked to these old people. They were much saddened but have no way to make their representations.

I actually it is the role of the g'ment to take care of this. Be it what it may, I don't think 87cents from Admiralty to Boon Lay is an exorbitant amount for the majority of senior citizens. There will be a minority that will need assistance, so we assist those instead of upending the whole system.
$0.87 for whole trip? Travel from end to end station also same cost?

Yes, its pretty good. All this furore about their profit level is misplaced, IMO, if the fares are reasonably affordable. $1.90 for adult fare for the same distance travelled is incredibly good value, in my view (which generates 22cents profit for SMRT).

That's good.
Quite reasonable for the majority, I feel. Of course, we help the lower 10% who cannot afford, but lets not change the whole train system because of that. -
i never said im against announcements. i just said because the way the bus stops are named, the announcements will be weird.
and i never said 60% was good enough. i just want to state stuff from another pov…
and i seriously beg those ppl who complain that the train delay cos of weather. it’s been going on ever since the mrt started running but you only knew it now? -

I see a big fine for SMRT coming up from the regulators (LTA), which is deserved. They will need to invest more into maintenance, or face punitive action (or we will demand it). -
i am not a engineer...so how long can this plastic cable work?

LTA officials also said on Sunday that the claws might have fallen off due to vibrations in some sections of the tunnel tracks.
Still, Dr Park Byung Joon, programme head of the Master of Science in Urban Transport Management at SIM University, said that other measures which have since been taken are a step in the right direction.
This includes imposing a speed limit on trains running through the city area, where most of the missing claws were found.
\"Slowing the trains down is the only way to make sure impact (on the third rail) is minimal... For the time being, it's the right way to reduce vibration,\" he said.
However, experts agreed that other factors, including an increase in passenger load, should not be ruled out for causing the disruptions.
Prof Lee said: \"More passengers means the train becomes heavier... At this stage, we cannot exclude (other) possibilities.\"
Mr Tham said: \"An overload on any system, coupled with other factors such as wear and tear, can cause a chain of events.\"
Meanwhile, SMRT saw its shares fall as much as 3.6 per cent yesterday, to its lowest level in more than two months, reported Reuters.

Find it scary as on sunday, I was taking train from Ang Mo Kio to Yio Chu Kang to collect books from Waywei (one of the kiasuparents), the train just cannot stop at Yio Chu Kang. It overshot Yio Chu Kang by about one carriage, I felt like hanging midair, as I'm at the front end. If the door had opened and one is daydreaming, one would have walked in the air. :scared: In the end, I had to get out from Khatib and took the opposite train back to Yio Chu Kang.
My opinion is something wrong with the brake as the train can't stop exactly on the right place. Really really scary! In the end, I take bus back home instead. -
My question is how long has this problem been there? Did SMRT do any maintenance on the tracks and train? How many times they do it in a year?

A big fine is no going to do any good as the co can in the near future submit a proposal to increase fare to transport council by citing increase operating costs. Invariably, co can recover whatever fine that is imposed upon them. A better strategy will be for the co's board to withold the coming bonuses of top management till the findings are out.
Remember is the neligence caused by people running the operations. -
I’m not blaming or pinpointing anyone. I just hope that the problem can be resolved quickly. Many lives will be involved if an accident really occurred from it. It’s not a laughing matter! Even $$ cannot make a dead person alive!
