It never been kiasu as I am already doing PV for my son born in 2007. School holiday is the best time to clock PV. :rahrah: :boogie:

agree. had a friend with child born in 2007. She started PV early, by now completed 3 quarters of the required PV hrs.

clock PV during school holidays is more peaceful (less stressful), because the school is very quiet. away from the hectic bustle during busy term time

-
so fast do PV already… mine only have 1 year to clock the hour and some more dunno will be selected ornot… haizzz…

So which should I chose to volunteer as, PV or Community? What are the pros and cons of each?

In my opinion, PV for school will only let you have P2B privilege for the school you volunteer but as you volunteer there, you get to know the school better. For Comminity work, ie. GRL, you get P2B privilege for schools within that GRC so you get more choices.
Both are subject to balloting within P2B if applicants exceed number of vacancies and the distance between your home and the school will play an important part when there is balloting.
Different schools and GRCs have different tasks and hours required so you will need to find out more from the specific school and GRC inorder to make better comparison.
Hope this helps.

for grassroot community route - from now till July 2013, remaining time left at most 1.5 years ....
thus ask that specific GRC you're interested in - when is the fastest time before you're certain that you can be promoted to EM level (assume you can prove to them that you're very committed), to get hold of that letter in time to register in July 2013 for P1 2014 ?
for PV route - call up that specific school you interested in, ask when can you be notified earliest whether or not they accept you as PV (in case the school is too popular), how many hours need to clock ?
best is enlist your spouse to help you. each one try one route.
if no balloting is required within that distance range you stay from that school, you can pick & choose the school (if you come under grassroot).
but if balloting is required, answer lies in luck on that day. -
