      Rice kiasu:
Went to RI today, they rejected all DSA appeals due to MOE. Sigh ! Cannot go to RI lo :gloomy:

Cheer Up πŸ˜„ RI is a good school but too many smartasses there. They will tend to have supremacism amongst themselves.

My cousin went there and I can see has a pretty rushed and packed schedule. If I were him, RI is a no-no πŸ˜“

If U Qualify for RI, U R Good at Every other Sch!

Just Apply Yourself in your New Sec Sch, Am Sure the Sch Will Treasure U Like their Glowing Jewel and U Can Cheery Pick ALL the Top Opportunities Available! πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

Who Knows, U Might Be the Top Scholar in your New Sch, or Even the Top Scholar in the A Lev 6 yrs Down the Road?

Looks Like the Effect of this Clamp Down Will Be Felt 6 years Down the Route .... When the Top A Lev Scholars may Be more Evenly Spread, and Not clustered within the 2, or 4 Mountain Peaks πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

RI is definately the top school but is never the best school for all high scorers. Imagine someone with a low to mid 260s without additional talents in sports or arts vying to capture the attention of the principal n teachers. These high scorers are better off going to other gd schools n representing them in various competitions. They are building their own portfolios in these instances which is vital as they proceed to tertiary. Really not much of use getting in RI n get yrself lost there by just being a face in the crowd.

Anw on a side note, know of one former RGS/RI student, one of the top psle scorers, also a gep student, trying to mingle with students from lower ranked jcs by giving advices n answering questions whenever she is available. A perfect A-level scorer, she is curently doing a direct master in NUS. In her facebk, she doesn’t even want to mention that she was formerly a gep or rgs/ri girl.

Another case, a former PSC/MOE scholar hailed from HCI, giving free consultation on sat to his former students even though he was no longer with that jc.

The above are gd examples of former top students giving back to society. Both never never give the impression that they are former elite students. On the contrary, both always encourage others to work hard n excel too.

My ds had just completed his A-level. He will be starting work soon as a relief teacher in an unranked sec sch prior to his enlistment. He could hve gone on to do relief teaching in an IP sch, lower sec level which to some may look better for his cv. However he feels that an unranked neighbourhood sch’s students need him more than an IP sch.

All said, do not be too preoccupied or engross with RI as is not for all top students. Opportunities abound in all IP schools including the top ranked non-ip schools for high psle scorers.

You are very blessed to have such a matured and sensible & thoughtful ds! And you are right....everyone can excel and be happy in whatever school he/she is in. :rahrah:

I think its a case of whether you want to be "big fish in small pond" or "small fish in big pond". Different children thrive under different circumstances, so choose what works best for them.

In 2009 after my DS PSLE he chose a band 2 school when he could have entered a band 1 all boys school. His logic was that he did not want to be at the bottom of the cohort in that school(his T-score was the COP for that band 1 school for that year) .

He made it to the one and only triple science class for S3 in his present school .
If he had gone to the band 1 school, things may have been different.

You mean your DS knew the COP of the band-1 school, so he decided to choose the band-2 school, after he got his PSLE results?

                        Nope....not like that.
The COP for the band 1 school was hovering around his Tscore.
So if he applied he had a high chance of getting in.
                        But he decided against it.
After that then we learnt that the COP for that year in that school was his T score.
