I usually make my own pencai, so i only put wat we like to eat. I tend to also cook everyone’s favourite dishes too. Afterall we hardly gather such a big grp to eat together.

There is no fixed recipe for pencai, just the layering n timing should b done well for a tasty meal. For my family, everyone chips in, bringing the goodies to fill the pot. Quite fun.

Actually I am fortunate as I don’t have headache during reunion dinner. My parents bochap and don’t have any reunion dinner cos during their young days they always quarrel during eve of CNY over which side to attend first.

My inlaws are very flexible. If I don’t organise anything, they will invite us over for a meal. All these years, I have been organising the reunion dinner.

So I get to plan what I want to eat, of course after consulting my DH, DD and DS first.

This year, besides the popiah party, I may be going to Ramen Champion for ramen for reunion dinner.

Hi, would someone please recommend a place to eat for reunion dinner for 14 pax ?

I am looking for a place with good food but reasonably priced, preferably less than $50 per head? Since economic outlook this year is not that great, got to save up first. :moneyflies:

            Please recommend :please:

Probably two tables. One giant table will be better, of course.

Last year I went to ubin restaurant in joo chiat. It cost slightly less than $30 per pax if you order from the ala carte menu. The food was good. I frequent that place . But you need to go down and place your order n put a deposit.

Thank you so much, carebear. I went to the facebook page, the food looks good. I haven't been there before. Will call them to check if they are opened on eve of CNY. Any other places to recommend?

They should be opened on the eve like last year. It was full house last year so better hurry. But to be economical, choose ala carte instead of the reunion dinner menu which we did not like cos it is set and you cannot change it. I think other seafood restaurants may also have reunion diinner at a reasonable price provided you do not take the set menu.
My family does not like the traditional food eg facai, abalone, etc.
For the lohei we did it at home after the dinner. This year we will be doing things a little different. We will be ordering popiah and DIY at home!

wah... so interesting. Can share your lobang for popiah? Wonder if they make and deliver for CNY 1st/2nd day. My mom is thinking of catering for our relatives.
