Is your longkang flooded? Look only no use you know.
I look no further than my longkang/longkau, so no time to look at other areas.verykiasu2010:
though they may not be corrupt, they are certainly below par in their job performance, just look at housing, transport, health care, homeland security... -

She should just speak for herself rather than making the party and other potential candidates look bad.’
No matter how hard I tried, I cannot come to the same conclusion as yours after reading Grace Fu’s comments. I would think she meant for her case, it is ok to scarifice some income and privacy to enter politic in order to serve Singapore and the public. However, she was wondering if the pay is cut too much, whether it would have a negative impact in term of attracting the right people to take on the job.
It’s a thankless job basically. I know a lot of people believe they can do a better job than the incubment. But it is never so simple and easy. It is always easy to say I will do this and do that if you are not in that person’s shoe. -

tend to agree with your view / interpretation of Grace Fu commentQuote:'To me, it sounds like,\"I would like to contribute to Singapore and Singaporeans but I value privacy more. But never mind, it can be compensated by the high pay. But if this isn't the case anymore, then forget it.\"

Vk2010... This sounds just like the other thread  :siam:
Not anti-RI lah... I know so many RI boys. Those closest and dearest all RI... How can hate RI? But love cannot be blind. It is the top school and it does breed a sense of entitlement. Once this school sets a tone, others will respect and follow. It has a moral social responsibility because it is the best.verykiasu2010:
why so anti-RI ? It is the same with other schools, and every school, political party, organisation, all have black sheep
the \"sense of entitlement\" starts in the family, beginning with the dad and mum
HCI not much better. All top schools same. Start with RI. -

Good that our PM has taken this step to reconnect with the people. Also like the fact that our President had accepted the commitee’s recommendations in such a quick manner.
Personally, all politicians holding office are statesmen. Financial and personal sacrifices are to be expected. In return, they are accorded with respect and the esteem the offices hold which financial rewards in itself cannot satisfy. Without their leadership and sacrifices, our nation cannot prosper and move together regardless of one’s social standing as one people. Nation building must be seen to start from the very top. Previous PAP leaders were seen to be frugal and had great support from the people. This is a major step taken by this current leadership to correct a policy error and is one i am happy about.
Occupations like social services, uniform groups, government medical staff and education service also require some form of sacrifices. If all these professionals would to demand higher pay, they should take the risk to venture into private sector. Thus comparing the very top pay the top ceos draw in the glcs/top public listed cos is not instructive at all. Major sacrifices must be seen from our leaders which is why it is not just a career but a calling! A highly competent professional with great achievements in his career may not necessarily make the cut for political office in this instance if he is too concern about remuneration. Careers as President, PM and his ministers are all extraordinary jobs meant for extraordinary people. There is glory in this area and no amount of material benefits can equate with it.
All in all, i am happy with the progress made so far by this current administration. -
if a general election were to be called now, will it be more than 60.1% ?
-
Yes. Kudos that the government acts fast on this point as this is my main peeve of the entire administration. I suppose when things are put in perspective and more equitable, we can focus on the right issues from here. Also, I pray that with this change, we continue to have good people serving without corruption otherwise it only proves that we have been having the wrong people on board which I really do not think so. I seriously hope people are not serving because of the attractive pay and their integrity stays in tact even with this change in policy. Then I can be very proud of Singapore’s leadership.
-
Why do I get the impression that whatever any man/woman in white says anything, it will be taken to be something contrary?
In any case, at the rate the all these political parties are being flamed for anything they say or do or being blamed for everything that is happening, it will be a wonder if ,going forward, anyone would want to enter into politics. -

you may be very disappointed on that
and i can reassure that grace will not be the only one who is not happy now
