      tankee:
there are some reports or speculation of a possible technical refresh in early 2012. Usually, it is changing the various components like CPU to newer models. Some say maybe a new 15\" model for pro.

Think for students, the 15\" model is a tad too big and cumbersome. Think it's more suited for gamers and maybe IT students - who needs the wider screen for programming. Feel that the 13\" model is good enough and less heavy too compared to the 15\"

For new Mac converts, it is useful to check out the various video clips/ e-tutorial lessons on Apple website to familiarize with the Mac.

I used to be a Windows user and finally converted to Mac last year. It did take me a while to get used to Mac features but once u get the hang of it, now, there's no turning back. Very user friendly.
I've switched from windows to mac for about 2 weeks. Quite ok, lah.

Oic... in that case, then get the mac with the faster processing speed. Personally, I wd go with the 13\" - there are 2 models for that. Get the higher tier one in that category. It shd help to see her through her sec school years. In any case, it's not as if she is a gamer or an IT programming student who needs all the sophisticated RAMs and speed, so don't think she will lose out much.

The Mac Air is light but if not mistaken the RAMs and processing speed is slightly lower than the Pro.

Not an IT expert so please take my sharing from a very amatuerish viewpoint. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ohโ€ฆ and check with the seller if the MS Office for Windows and Creative Suite (adobeโ€ฆ) comes bundled with the Mac. It shd be much much cheaper getting from the school IT vendor than if u purchase them outside.

I'm quite sure there is. A teacher friend did mention that financial assistance is provided for needy students. But not sure if there are minimum requirements to be fulfilled. Best to check with the school.

I'm using a mb pro. It's quite light compared to my old laptop. I wanted to have that dvd/cd drive. What if I want to install programmes? I have this MS Office next to me staring me in the face, but I haven't installed it (had bought it on offer and it's good for 3 or 4 users). And like when my kid's teacher passes me a CD of their videos or photos. Then I have to buy a cd drive? Sian, lah.

For software installation, u can use the remote disk function (ie. borrow the Drive from another iMac desktop or laptop - but they have to enabled Remote disk first). http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mh19568.html

For audio CD and video, I only know via external drive. ๐Ÿ˜ž http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mh21662.html
