Actually I prefer not receiving any form of notification in this case. It's already obvious enough if my kid comes home and says her classmates got a big yellow envelope, rather than she gives me a letter that says 'We regret to inform you ...'.
When I went to my girl's school to receive the yellow envelope last year, there was a stack of computer-generated white forms/letters underneath the pile of envelopes. Out of curosity, i enquired and was told those letters are for students who were not selected for the programme. So, MOE does inform students who fail to make it.

This is such a typical Singapore style - and not a good one. It's similar to when you're unsuccessful in a job application, they do not even bother to contact you. A \"We regret to inform you.......\" letter or email would improve their image by miles.

        Parents,
        What's GAT?

        It is General Ability Test

          GAT - General Ability Test

Not all kids will inform their parents when they have been unsuccessful. Rather than watching out for other kids walking out of school with big yellow envelopes, I would rather get a letter on the same day. Of course, MOE could sweeten the bad news with something like -

\"............... in appreciation for the effort by the students, we would like to offer you a 5yr free membership to The Science Centre.\"

MOE will still inform you if your child falls under which percentile of the same cohort irregardless if he/she makes it to GEP.

As far as I know, nyps doesn’t train students for GEP. I feel that it’s more of the demographics that the children come from and the standard of the papers churned out by the schools. If the children have been exposed to a certain standard most of the time, there will naturally be more students qualifying for at least the first round. I don’t think any school would cheat to place their students in the GEP programme.
These schs know better that if the wrong kids got selected, they are the ones who will suffer with the wrongly placed kids.

I believe it is the type of parents they have attracted to put their already smart children in the school since P1.

I have a friend whose daughter was in GEP and she still continue working. Her daughter is very committed and responsible towards her assignments.

I think the basic criteria for GEPers is they must be motivated in their learning.
