Actually I prefer not receiving any form of notification in this case. It's already obvious enough if my kid comes home and says her classmates got a big yellow envelope, rather than she gives me a letter that says 'We regret to inform you ...'.

      Parents,
      What's GAT?

      GAT - General Ability Test

Not all kids will inform their parents when they have been unsuccessful. Rather than watching out for other kids walking out of school with big yellow envelopes, I would rather get a letter on the same day. Of course, MOE could sweeten the bad news with something like -

\"............... in appreciation for the efforts by the students, we would like to offer you a 5yr free membership to The Science Centre.\"

      ๐Ÿ˜‰

      That is a good suggestion.
Or something like Free magazine subscription for the next 3 years ?? ๐Ÿ˜‰

As far as I know, nyps doesnโ€™t train students for GEP. I feel that itโ€™s more of the demographics that the children come from and the standard of the papers churned out by the schools. If the children have been exposed to a certain standard most of the time, there will naturally be more students qualifying for at least the first round. I donโ€™t think any school would cheat to place their students in the GEP programme.[/quote]

These schs know better that if the wrong kids got selected, they are the ones who will suffer with the wrongly placed kids.

I believe it is the type of parents they have attracted to put their already smart children in the school since P1.

I have a friend whose daughter was in GEP and she still continue working. Her daughter is very committed and responsible towards her assignments.

I think the basic criteria for GEPers is they must be motivated in their learning.

Boys are usually more playful. I heard and see most GEP boys having SAHM in my school. You can see them, in T-shirt and with lunch box waiting for their GEP boys at the school. They usually crowd among themselve. They are also being labelled, \"GEP-mother\", too. I also know a GEP boy whose parents (both) do not seem to be working and both send him and wait for him at school any time and stay with him even during his CCA training, or any competition.
