2013 P1 Registration Exercise for 2014 In-Take

My hub was an old boy of CHS but later went to st Pat’s. Now seriously thinking whether to send our little piglet to CHS to receive a good bilingual education (my hub and I are English speaking, super lousy in writing and reading Chinese) - yet fear kiddo may not cope with the stress level and get marginalised. Heard that parents and private tutors typically ‘take over’ the in-depth teaching. If piglet scores say 260, 270 points and above, well and good coz he has many good secondary schools to chooose but what happens if his results are average??


Hub actually wanted kiddo to have La Sallien education eg. attend SJIJ (although it’s not well-known for its academic excellence and Chinese standard) and I like that it’s affiliated with SJI.

I suppose I would let our son rough it out at CHS first, and see if he thrives and if really cannot take it then transfer to SJIJ. And advice, KS Parents?

I stay in Pasir Ris but my two closest schools are Meridian and Park View which is within 1km but I am hoping for Pasir Ris Primary which is >2km from where I stay. Have applied to be a parent volunteer but then again....its always going to be balloting when the time comes and the chance of success will be very slim for those outside 2km.

You guys reckon that i should seriously consider moving into the 1km zone for better chance?

Any advice will be appreciated.

So far, there is no balloting for Pasir Ris Primary under phase 2B. So if you are successful in being a PV there, your child should have no issue.

However, past statistics are just past statistics, it is just an indicative of what may happen. Reality may be quite different.

If moving is not issue, then move. It is better for your child in the 6 years that he or she is studying there. Less time spent travelling to & fro school, can pop home for lunch before afternoon CCA, etc.

perhaps study minimum 1 year at Catholic High (CHS) first.
do not give up your husband’s precious legacy for your son, which years later can be passed down to your future grandson. Bear in mind: no matter how many times you shift house in future, never lose your son’s P1 CHS report card. It is crucial, $ cannot buy.

Not to worry. Although CHS is SAP school, P1 / P2 lower primary Chinese is still manageable, not difficult. After one year, monitor situation.

from now till Jan 2014, still have 2 years.
for Chinese - try to enrol yr son in one of those centres above parents encouraged. Every child differ. Try out one term first. if not ok, try another centre until son happily settle down.

can consider kumon Chinese.
The advantage / strength of kumon Chinese over Berries is:
for kumon, son practise reading Chinese everyday. Berries, Tien Hsia only once a week.

Thanks very much, KS Parents for your kind advice. Yes, will certainly consider your suggestions carefully. Have signed son up for a trial at Lorna Whiston’s and see how he copes. Would like him to be challenged and yet have a happy, balanced lifestyle. As to how that’s to be achieved is my challenge haha. Keep up the good work!

anyone staying in Toa Payoh,considering CHIJ (TP) as i am living < 1km . Checked with their school and they no need PV. Considering other route like joining as community leader but other mummies from this topic forum told me that i might be too late. Have anyone tried this route? Also any idea whether Marymount convent is gd (my backup plan)?

You are really too late to become GRL... Maybe u want to check out some schools as PV... Most school have close the PV...

Guess I'm quite late in joining this group, my little piglet DD will be joining the fray of applicants come 2014 enrolment. Didn't realise PV has already started, what more ended in some of the schools :scared:

Am considering schools around Queenstown / Bukit Merah area as I'll be moving to Dawson Estate sometime in 2014. Any good recommendations? I have seen pretty good feedback on Zhangde Primary School, but in terms of distance, Queenstown Primary School will be the nearest (< 1km) , Gan Eng Seng, New Town & Zhangde will fall between the 1-2km radius.

Have considered River Valley, but distance is rather far, and besides, their PV application has closed already :oops:
