Parents, not enrichment centres, are key to result

I oso stingy. So DS must be very independent.
I'm not against tuition or enrichment class but I am not willing to part with my husband hard earned $$. I can used this $$ on other things instead which are more meaningful.

I would used the word to describe her teaching style \"rigid\" and \"authoritative\".
In my experience, many teachers (and some parents too) are 'rigid' and 'authoritative'. Other than maths, there seems to be only one way to write compo too! Well, KPIs at work. Follow my words, only do this and that, then you will get your A/A*...
Talking about compo, i need helps too. Any threads i can follow thru? Sorry i am OT. -

laughingcat, your sharing is something of an eye opener for me.
No problem at all. It's time for me to share that too. I actually laughed at myself for being a P5 again last year. Did all the past year papers and also time myself. This year I am P6 again.
IMO, it is really ridiculous on how today's maths has evolved in today's generation. I really wonder are we all killing the joy of doing maths and education. Is it really necessary? -

Tell you secret... I also did 1 compo and time myself... and pass up to Teacher! I needed to know what exactly the criteria for good writing were because it was such a mystery. :lightrod: It's not just Math... every subject also :siao: .Chenonceau:

My experience with teachers are that they are open to any methods that will help the students as long as they know what they are doing. I teach factorization to my P4 students though it is taught in secondary level. The main reason is I feel that's the best method as it leaves very little margin for error/omission even though most students find it very difficult to master in the beginning. This may be due to maturity of the brain as one poster mentioned earlier in the thread. When the school teachers realised that my students are using a different method from what they are teaching, they have no objections. I didn't hear that they use the method after that, so it might be that they have to stick to MOE recommended methods. :censored: However, my students did report that some teachers adapt those nuggets that I used e.g. using fingers for 9 timetable. :imcool:

Your case is similar to a famous Qingβs emperor Kangxi, who was reputed to be highly knowlegable.
According to historical records, he once asked his personal tutor who was famed to hve given rather frank remarks without consideration to his life. "We are of the same standard" replied the tutor. Rather keen to find out his standing vs-a vs the top scholars that sat for the imperial exam, he submitted his essay in another name. None of his senior ministers knew about it. Eventually, he came in second.
He was an intellect and a politically acute king!
