Hi! Happy New Year to all experts here! :grphug:

Need help with the following 2 Maths Questions and appreciates your help with the a model diagram; :thankyou: very much.

      1) Lionel bought a shirt with 2/7 of his money. He also bought a pair of jeans that cost $23 more than the shirt. If he had $10 left, how much did the pair of jeans cost?

      2) 7/10 of the spectators in a stadium are adults.
There are 184 more adults than children.
      (a) How many children are there altogether?
      (b) 5/6 of the children are boys, how many more boys than girls are there?

          Hi

While waiting for the arrival of 财神, I’ll try to give some pointers for drawing the MD.

Draw 7 boxes to show the number of adults and 3 boxes to show the number of children.

          So we’ve 4 boxes ------ 184 and hence 1 box ----- 46

          (a)Number of children ----- 46*3 ----- 138

For the second part of the question, draw 5 boxes to show the number of boys and 1 box to show the number of girls.

Number of boys ----- 5 parts
Number of girls ----- 1 part

          6 parts ----- 138
          1 part ------ 23

          4 parts ----- 23*4 ----- 92

(b)There are 92 more boys than girls.

PS ----- The boxes for (a) and (b) are of different measures and kinds, hence different sizes.

If you need the MD, please let me know.I'll do it at a later time.

Wishing everyone in KSP, a very Happy and Prosperous Chinese New Year.

          Best wishes

I find this thread useful esp. to learn fractions. When I saw the fraction questions in the P3 assessment books, I was really blur. Looking at the answers given by parents here, I am seeing some light for fractions:) Thank you so much.
