River Valley High School [*IP]

Edureach:
Academically, the school's A-levels performance placed them at 4th spot just behind NJC. Maybe doing something correct.
Which are the top schools? Presumably RI, HCI? Which schools are 5th/6th etc? -

We choose sec school with our eyes open, since we have chosen RV, we will have faith in it and support its decisions.
For the 2 parents who are so strongly against the decision that they had to shout and be rude, I can only say, since they and the school have fundamental differences, they should for the sake of their kids, transfer to another school (jmho).
Times have changed. During our school days, we do not get to go overseas for learning, but now, kids are going overseas for all sorts of reasons - competitions, immersion programmes, CIP.
Similarly,if we remain stagnant and use the traditional methods of teaching, our kids will lose out in the long run. Hence, I give the school the blessings in going ahead with the ipad programme.
As for games addiction, as verykiasu2010 mentioned, \"if the kids were to become addicted, no matter where / what the kid will be addicted....they will get their hands somewhere and get addicted\". So, don't blame the school and IT for your kids' addiction. We parents have to educate and keep close eyes on our children.
Someone mentioned about Crescent Girls, this is something I googled and wanted to share (source: wikipedia) :
Crescent is one of the few FutureSchools@Singapore conferred by MOE and IDA as a leading school with excellent teaching and learning practices that leverage on technology, using TPCs to study and do research. Another achievement that has secured Crescent's position as a leading instituiton on the world map, was being declared by Bill Gates at the 2007 Global Leaders Forum (January 31, 2007) as mentor school for schools of the future around the world. Crescent now mentors innovative schools in 12 countries under the Worldwide Microsoft Innovative Schools Programme.
Wow, no mean feat. Perhaps RVH and us parents can learn from Crescent how they manage games addiction, safekeeping of TPCs, etc. -
Impressed to learn of the Virtual Reality Laboratory and being 4th in ranking!

10.MJC[/quote]I always have a curious interest about this. Each year, the Institute of Physics offers 10 medals for the top A level students in Physics. These 10 medalists used to be dominated by RJC and HCJC. In 2010 A level results, 3 RV students were awarded the medals leaving only 2 each for RI and HCI. The fact is even more remarkable when you learn that RV's cohort size is only 1/3 of RI and HCI. -
I bet the folks from Crescent Girls are also keeping tab on this RVH fiasco... ESP the sec 1 parents... Cos' they are just as clueless on what to expect.

Juz curious, they are being ranked according to ??

>= 4 H2 / 3 H2 distinctions % ?
I was told by my gal that the principal (DHS) gave a speech last yr after the release of A level results,
they are comparable to NJC results but happy that it takes them lesser yrs to obtain that level. -
Daddy
I think the reason could be becos Crescent Girls is \"already a well-known fact\"
Kinda amused...
Cos' my niece in Crescent girls.... And they have to buy simi slate pc... Around $2000... Got briefing session with parents... But no such hoo-haa.
:?
Cannot imagine if RVH ask their students to spend $2000...
that it is a futureschool conferred by MOE and IDA,
whereby they have been using the tablets for past few yrs.
Hence, parents who first enrolled their kids in CGS are already \"mentally prepared\" beforehand, yes / no ??
