Perhaps yes. Since CG already have all their materials online... Parents would know what to expect. Dunno if RVH already has?
I think the reason could be becos Crescent Girls is \"already a well-known fact\"Daddy

Kinda amused...
Cos' my niece in Crescent girls.... And they have to buy simi slate pc... Around $2000... Got briefing session with parents... But no such hoo-haa.
:?
Cannot imagine if RVH ask their students to spend $2000...
that it is a futureschool conferred by MOE and IDA,
whereby they have been using the tablets for past few yrs.
Hence, parents who first enrolled their kids in CGS are already \"mentally prepared\" beforehand, yes / no ??
I understand that CG doesn't make it compulsory for students to buy the new gadgets. And CG leave all the selling/logistics to the vendor.
So in a way, CG won't kena humtum by the parents. -
Daddy
In the recent MM Lee visit to DHS, data was released on the percentage of parents with university degree qualification in almost all top schools and a few neighbourhood schools for comparison. Even Crescent Girls' schools which is also a government school was on the list. But RV wasn't in the list, I have been wondering why.

Because of the location of the school, could it be that there are a higher percentage of students from less well-off families compare to other top schools? -
I’m a yr2 at RV… let me state my 2 cents.
If the student gets addicted, then it’s the student’s problem, not the iPad’s problem, or the school’s problem. I dont see how students can get addicted to the iPad anyway. The app store is so boring with so many paid apps and the free apps aren’t fun anyway. Maybe they will be very fascinated during the early months, but after that, it’s nothing. I remember when i got my phone, i was very addicted to SMSing. But now, i barely message at all…
Secondly, on that idiot who was concerned about the radiation: The sun emits UV radiation. The wifi router in your house emits radiation. You emit radiation. The banana you eat emits radiation. On the train, so many people have phones, and all of them emit radiation. If radiation were to harm us, "3/4 of the US would not exist now", a quote from my friend.
And IMO, the reasons why the parents made such a big fuss about this was that it apparently didn’t tell parents how they actually would be using the ipad, and tbh i’m clueless as well… Of course, Crescent Girls’ and NYGH could have more students from well-off families so their parents would either already own one or wouldn’t bat an eyelid.

Edureach:
What is the basis of this ranking? I am sure many parents would like to know the following:
On the basis of 2010 A-level results top ten:
1.RI
2.HCI (pretty close to RI)
3.NJC
4.RV
5.DHS
6.VJC
7.TJC
8.AJC
9.ACJC
10.MJC
1. Source of ranking info?
2. Overall passes?
3. Number of students qualified for uni?
4. Quality grades?
5. Ranking based on absolute numbers or percentage? Bearing in mind RV's cohort is around 430 as compared to RI/HCI/NJC's 1000-1200. -
RV cohort is 343, not 430.

It’s not ranking because there isn’t any ranking. Its individual school’s performance in the 2010 A-levels exam . The parameters used are mean UAS and 3h2 + 1h1. That’s the most conventional yardstick used to measure overall performance. -

How is the data obtained? Did MOE release the data? Do you have the mean UAS for each school? Thanks. -

just my estimate of 400 intake at Year 1 + 30 PRC scholars at Year 3.
343....probably lower intake at Year 1 for that batch. think RV were holding at queensway then? -

where can we find these data?rosecy
