Owing to this, they are careful in what they report but it is being taken as favouring the establishment.
Can't we just be slightly more objective?

Better that he should have come clean early to quell speculation. The not coming clean damaged his image beyond rescue. Also, there is really no question about his privacy or that of the said women to address. What was needed from him was a simple denial or admission as fact of what he was accused of. A 'no' or 'yes' would have sufficed, no need to invade privacy. This would have stopped all further talks & speculations on the subject matter. See how by not coming clean, this has ended...?
