弟子规,三字经,千字文,百家姓

I started my child with 三字经 about six months ago. I bought a cd and just play as we hang around at home as and when I remember to play it. I was actually doing an experiment (whether children really can pick things up if they listen to a cd while doing something else) rather than really teaching my child 三字经. But 三字经 was chosen because I wanted my kid and myself to learn it, it’s Chinese and it’s catchy (like rhyme).
Now, I can just shoot any part of the 三字经 and my child can continue with ease. But of cos, he doesn’t understand all of it at his age but being able to recite was good enough for me. -
上网应该可以找到很多资料,我觉得让孩子从小了解一些传统知识还是很有用的, will help him be a better man.

They're taught in some primary schools. I think it's a good idea, provided the child understands the underlying values.

Mdm Koh, which level is it taught? My colleague's children, who are in pri 1 to 4 in various primary schools, are not taught these. -
Those schools ww teach this usu starts fr P1 and reinforces fro P2-6. This is part of moral education.

Schools like Tao Nan, NYPS and Ai Tong use the books from P1. I guess not all schools are comfortable with using these texts. I'm glad that you're using them for your kids.Mdm Koh:

My daughter is learning 弟子规,三字经和唐詩. These are part of my homeschool curriculum.

Maybe I should start reciting poems to my little boy…no harm starting at a young age.

[/quote]Aiyoh, all the branded schools! No wonder none of my colleagues' children are having them in schools, cos they are attending neighborhood schools. Anyway, I am taking the initiative to let my child learn them now.

My son learnt dizigui in primary school. They even gave them the book for it. My office lady's daughter in neighbourhood school also had - and they had a Dizigui DVD given. Had more than one copy and she even passed to me for my toddler to watch.
