读经 usually means 国学经典, start from 弟子规,三字经,千字文,百家姓 (these are 蒙学 for children) then 论语,老子,大学, 孟子 etc.

Seems most posts are in english. But when talking about chinese classics 读经,I still feel more comfortable in Chinese. Any parent tried to teach their children 读经 here?:) let's share.

Sorry, don't quite understand your qn - what 读经? Like San zi jing? If yes, then my child is learning.

many of my friends let their kids learn 弟子规,三字经 since pre-school, at that time they can recite the entire content, but by P1 they all forgotten. guess consistent reciting is required.

thanks to some schools who still teaches them in pri school.

I started my child with 三字经 about six months ago. I bought a cd and just play as we hang around at home as and when I remember to play it. I was actually doing an experiment (whether children really can pick things up if they listen to a cd while doing something else) rather than really teaching my child 三字经. But 三字经 was chosen because I wanted my kid and myself to learn it, it’s Chinese and it’s catchy (like rhyme).

Now, I can just shoot any part of the 三字经 and my child can continue with ease. But of cos, he doesn’t understand all of it at his age but being able to recite was good enough for me.

上网应该可以找到很多资料,我觉得让孩子从小了解一些传统知识还是很有用的, will help him be a better man.

They're taught in some primary schools. I think it's a good idea, provided the child understands the underlying values. 😄

Mdm Koh, which level is it taught? My colleague's children, who are in pri 1 to 4 in various primary schools, are not taught these.

Schools like Tao Nan, NYPS and Ai Tong use the books from P1. I guess not all schools are comfortable with using these texts. I'm glad that you're using them for your kids. 😄

Maybe I should start reciting poems to my little boy…no harm starting at a young age.
