      phtthp:
any parent with child going Ngee Ann primary ?

my niece P3 in Ngee Ann this year.
She said please ground your child well in Chinese - during kindergarten K1, K2 foundation years. She said Ngee Ann P1 now offer 3 types of Chinese:-

      - Higher Chinese
      - Core Chinese (ie. normal or ordinary Chinese)
      - Bridging Chinese (for weaker students who seldom have chance practise Chinese speaking)

but this Bridging Chinese is \"unofficial\".
once enter P1 after one month or so, Chinese teacher would have assessed your child. Teacher will classify your child under one of the above 3 category. Niece said other primary schools usually introduce Bridging Chinese at higher level. But Ngee Ann does it very early.
Bukit Panjang PS also offer the same from P1 Term 3 onwards...
So those P1 children are streaming now for Chinese as Term 3 those selected will be in these 3 types of chinese class. 😓

for some non SAP schools - they prefer to start Chinese foundation early.

usually around mid P1 Term 2, they’ll start sorting out students taking Chinese into 3 groups.

going forward, Yes forsee that - gradually, the more popular, very hot individual schools may abolish PV, let GRL take over. Is the decision of individual school whether they want to keep or abolish PV route.
I cannot imagine PV to be abolished and the impact will be a great influx of GRL. Then GRC like bukit timah, Moulmein will have oversupply of GRL.

This is a chicken and egg problem which cannot be easy resolved.

NC/RCs of GRC will have stipulated numbers of members they want so unless these numbers change, it is unlikely to have uncontrolled excessive number of GRLs going for P2B.

suppose hundreds of interested Rosyth zone applicants flock to GRL, but GRL control and pick only a handful ... means many will be turned away under this 2B route too.

any child going Nan Chiau or Hokkien related clan school, may read:-

just wonder if all hopes for me in 2B is lost…

We stay outside 1km of the desired school which only accepts PV who stays within 1km.
I have missed the window for signing up as school Parent Volunteer. Called up and all closed.

Now, what option do i have now? 2C? As good as suicide going from the statistics unless i am superly lucky.

My hb is PR but I am Singaporean, will we given 2 chances for balloting or only 1?

is your child Singaporean or PR?

it is the child's nationality that matters, not the parents'.

depends on the citizenship of your child.

they only interested in your child.
nothing to do with your husband's citizenship nor yours.

if your child is a SG born citizen - 2 slips of white paper will be placed inside the balloting box.
but if your child is PR - then only 1 slip of white paper is placed inside balloting box.

did you call up the school personally to inquire if they can still accept your PV, even though is closed ?

Yes, I called each of them to be rejected. I delivered my 2nd bb mid last year and was busy with him… ok, that’s my excuse. They opened up registration since last year and i was of coz too late… i can’t forgive myself now.

you're also late to go for GRL route under 2B.

is desired school a Hokkien clan school ?
if Yes and one of you Hokkien, try SHHK route but clock up 40 volunteer hrs. Once SHHK send out mass email broadcast, act fast to reply \"Yes, i want to volunteer! \" next coming up April / May event needing volunteer is \"Ma Zhu dan\" festival.

go for 2C try your luck, have a few other backup schools.
during balloting, if is meant to be yours, is yours.

at same time, find out what're the niche areas of interest yr desired school wants. groom and prepare yr son well these 2 years. Target for transfer into desired school from P1. Also queue up yr son for transfer after phase 3 registration ends in August 2013.
