1) Dan harvested some apples. He sold to Adam 3/4 of the apples and another 105 apples. He sold to Geradine 3/4 of the remainder but took back 55 apples. Dan had 890 apples left.


a) How many apples did Geradine have after returning 55 apples to Dan
b) How many apples did Farmer Dan harvest?

2) Tank X and Y are each filled with some water. If water from tank Y is poured into Tank X until water in tank X reaches the brim, there will be 8L of water left in Tank Y, If water from Tank X is poured into Tank Y until water in Tank Y reach the brim, there will be 26L of water leftt in Tank X. The ratio of volume of of Tank X to Taank Y is 5 : 3. How many more litres of water are needed to fill both tanks to their brim?

3)A florist had total 272 roses and lilies in ratio of 12:5. After selling away twice as many roses as Lilies, the ratio of roses to Lilies was 5:2. How many roses did she shell?

Q1. You should be able to solve this... I will provide some pointers...
Before Geraldine returned the apples to Dan, how many did Dan have ? This number represent 1/4 of the remainder after selling Geraldine the apples. You can work backwards from here.

At first,
Roses --> 12/17 x 272 = 192
Lilies --> 272 - 192 = 80

Roses left : Lilies left
= 192-2u : 80 - 1u
= 5 : 2

cross multiply or equalize:
384 - 4u = 400 - 5u
1u = 16

Roses sold --> 2 x 16 = 32

some parts of the question is missing..I will presume the cost of child ticket is $4 less.

1 Adult --> $ x
1 child --> $(x-4), 6 child --> $ 6(x-4)

1 adult + 6 children --> $x + $ 6x - $24 = $ (7x - 24)

Number of adults = 322/(7x-24)

2/7 of the strawberry cupcakes were sold. This was 1/2 of the chocolate cupcakes sold. The no. of grapes cupcakes sold was 1/4 the total no. sold in the other two flavours. Given that there were 190 cupcakes left, how many cupcakes were there at first?

S : C : G = 3 : 5 : 2 --> 42u : 70u : 28 u (total 140u)
2/7 of S sold --> 12u
So, number of C sold --> 24u
G sold --> 1/4 x 36u = 9u
Total sold --> 45u
Left --> 140u - 45u = 95u
95u --> 190, 1u --> 2

Total number of cupcakes, at first --> 2 x 140 = 280

Jim --> 1 unit
Ray --> 3 units

At first,
Jim --> 1 unit + $189
Ray --> 3 units + $85
So, 1 unit + $189 = 3 units + $85
2 units --> $ 104
1 unit --> $52

1 unit + $ 189 --> $241

Each has $241 at first.
